OK, it may not be the answer, or the E36 M3, but I hear MR2 is pronounced "merde" (E36 M3) in French.
I think I've mentioned this before, but I work with a guy who has an '85 Mr2 with 34k miles on it.
And it is now for sale.
It's basically a low-mileage car which shows some sitting-around wear. There is some sun damage to the roof, minor surface rust creeping on the edges of the front driver's side fender, and under the leading edge of the hood (the rest of the car is rust free). It has some other faded exterior trim bits and minor issues. I drove it and it seemed to run and drive like a 34k mile car, except for flat-spotted tires.
...So what's it worth?
I can pick it up for $2,500. But I haven't sold my FD yet - that needs to happen first.
I would buy it if it was offered to me at that price just based on your description. 100% worth the drive from PA.
I'd buy a 34K mile MR2 in a heartbeat at that price.

And yeah MR Deux (silent x) would roll of the tongue sounding very much like "Merde" AKA E36 M3.
$2500 sounds like a steal for that car.
hardtop with no sunroof... I would think 2500 is way too cheap

Why are you asking and not buying right now? You dont need enablers for this one, you need to sign papers NOW!
Yeah, no E36 M3!! What they said, if you don't buy it now, tell us where it is and one of us will get it. I've had 3 of them and they are awesome. Truly a go-cart like driving experience.

My first board-name was "stansMR2".
Buy it.
Actually, the word is "merdeux" which translates to E36 M3ty.
And aren't some trim pieces unobtanium on those? Depending on what shape they are and what you want to do with this, it could mather.
But yeah a merdeux that hasn't rusted completely back to earth at this point is amazing.
if i remember right the 85' had some "unique to 85'" parts that didnt carry over to the 86+ cars, nothing to worry about just something to consider. and $2500 is a hell of a deal for that clean of car with only 34K on it. When i bought my 87' i paid $2000 for it and it had some rust starting and 197K on the clock, i would have gladly paid an extra $500 to lose 83% of those miles.

Turn off your computer and go buy that before I do.
There really are not a lot of '85 only parts. One that comescomes to mind is that' 85 had a desirable rear sway bar that did not return in following years.
The interior is shared with the '86 with some color changes. A couple of rare items are a radio surround for any Gen1 MR2 and ash trays.
Better if it has crank windows because electric switches are NLA.
Buy it.
I'm leaving my house now, race you to your co-worker.
How's that for enabling? :-D
What they said. My brother has an '86 and loves it. It is a blast to drive, feels much faster than it is. That 4age sure loves to rev!
If it's as rust free as it is in the pictures and the mileage is genuine, that's very likely to be worth closer to twice as much as he's asking for it.

Does your FD have a V8? If so I'm interested
While the mr2 is a crazy barn find, why are you selling an FD??? Do want.

I'm a Mazda nut of many years and thought it would be my favoritest thing ever, but it turns out it's just not for me. I'm weird.

No, but it has a new engine and rebuilt transmission you could sell for decent money.
I love the Gen 1&2 V6 swaps on this one.
Guys, I do WANT this car. I can come up with the money. But I don't have a place to put the thing. My shop is full of damnable 626s and my garage space has the FD. I could park it outside through the winter, but would hate to...Though it may come to that because that's what the current owner is going to do anyways.
It's hard to sell a sports car going into winter. And if I go low on my FD price to move it, then in effect, I'm not really getting the good deal on the MR2 any more.

Go Get It....
I had an 86, wonderful car. Traded for a 91 Turbo, also a wonderful car. I wish that I had kept both.
