Anybody know a good fan switch part numer that I can pick up at napa, autozone, etc?

Needs to come on around 195 ish and off around 180 ish.

And yes, I know I can order any number of them from Jegs, etc, but it's for a customer's hot rod that needs to be finished today, no time to order.

Thanks very much for any info!!!

when i worked at AZ, they had fan controller kits you could buy to go along with the efans they sold. should be around 40 bucks iirc. they were in the back by the clutch parts, in case you get someone that doesn't know what a "fan" is.

Isn't the on-off dictated by the sensor at the bottom of the radiator?

Not sure what you mean, but I'm looking for the one wire grounding switch that taps into the intake manifold or cyl head. The usually have 1/4" pipe thread. It's for a 350 Chevy in a '26 Model T coupe.

Like this?

That's a temperature gage sending unit, I don't think it turns anything on and off.

I've been wrong before, but I believe the thing at the bottom of the radiator flips the fan on and off.

Hayden part# 3652 for preset temp... 3647 for adj. temp... it uses a probe through radiator fin.

go to NAPA.. look in the Echlin catalog- look for the switches with part numbers that start with the letters "FS" (Fan Switch- get it?).. i picked one up for my Camaro last week that turns on at 210, off at 200 according to the catalog- part number FS113.. there was also one that was 205 on/195 off, but i didn't get it because i'm running a 195 thermostat and i like to leave a little temp cushion so the fan isn't running all the time.. cost was around $30.

i used a plug that i snipped off the knock sensor of another GM engine that i have sitting around, but i'm sure you can buy a pigtail for it..

On newer cars the coolant temperature sensor, usually on the thermostat housing, tells the PCM what the temperture is and it turns the fan on.

No need to go to the store and flip pages. Go here (to this searchable PDF):

Page 979 is where specs for the fan switches start. FWIW, 195 on, 180 off is a pretty low setting for anything with an electric fan. However, looks like FS117 (and others) is what you're looking for...but those are metric threads and I'm guessing you're working on some classic iron to want such low temps. Only thing I see with 'merkan threads is FS300.

Good luck, sounds like an odd request to need such a specific temperature range in such a short period of time. If I were in a pinch, I'd go for something like an FS100 or FS113 which would be extremely common.
