Yesterday I pulled my IACV off my P71 and replaced it with a brand new one. Today I noticed a knocking noise when the car was shifted from drive to park or park to drive. The car runs fantastic, though.

Faulty part?

Iac valve is simply an air valve. When you take your foot off the gas the throttle plate closes completely and all the air is routed through the iac valve. The pcm opens and closes it to maintain the engine idle speed depending on conditions. I see no reason why an iac valve would cause an engine knock or tap, unless the valve itself is making the noise.

UPDATE: The valve was making the noise. It was faulty.

Thanks for the update. When I Google a car problem there are millions of questions but rarely do people post the solution.
