Perusing my local Facebook Marketplace I tripped over this 1971 Buick Electra with a retractable wheel set. Apparently a prototype developed by PennDOT for snow traction. Has anyone ever heard of such tests or vehicles?

Odd but likely to get entrance to Amelia, Hilton Head, etc.

I'll share with some of the folks from GM who keep track of archives and see if they have any of the history on it. Not sure they would, but still cool

Never heard of it before but looks like an awesome idea for towing an rv or heavy car trailer, kinda like the retractable helper axle on the back of concrete trucks.
