I remember seeing a story about the Mercedes transporter, but what's the story on the other one?

The other one was built by Dean Moon, obviously inspired by the Mercedes transporter.

That Mooneyes one is like a bulldog: so ugly that it's cute.

Can you imagine how hard that would be to drive when you're that far in front of the front wheels. Would sure take some gettin' used to.

You get used to it fast enough.

The first one is a Corvair. Notice the air intakes, the cab is from a Greenbrier. 'Vair rear bumper, looks like Impala tail lights.

I was thinking '59 El Camino cab, with assorted corvair/chevy parts.

If you're just carrying a lightweight race car, those first two look a hell of a lot more practical than the usual F350+trailer. Why does no one make anything like that anymore?

If I remember correctly it is a stretched VW single cab and has a Corvair engine.

The link doesn't work, but it's on a Mercedes 300 S chassis, corvette motor, 3 speed, '59 Elky cab. A Man named Holtkamp built it, planned to build more, sold it to Moon. Moon took it to have disc brakes fitted, and it was damaged in an earthquake.

I did a search for "Dean Moon Hauler", but it might also be under "Cheetah Transporter"

The veedub setup is my fave because it should be pretty doable at home. Put a Subbie 6Cyl in there, stretch the chasis, and the space that opens up in front of the rear wheels could be used for storage. Yeah, baby!

I read an article about Don Prudhomme's transporter recently. He originally bought it from Richard Petty.

I have that truck, 60's Dodge crew cab, with a regular 8' bed, for sale right now.

Wouldn't take a lot to stretch it, even have an extra crew cab long box frame if someone was so inclined.

Great, another project...
