I'm looking for brake pads for weekend driving, autocross, and some infrequent track use. I've read some good reviews on Ferodo DS2500's but not a lot of definitive track experience reviews.
The reason I’m asking this and not just going ahead and ordering a specific set for street/autoX and track is because I doubt that at least for the next year or two I will get out and do more than 1 or 2 instructor session HPDE events in a summer. I’ll probably go out to Gingerman Raceway in West Michigan and try out an event or two this summer, and that’s about it. The one event I was thinking for registering for advertised eight 20 min. sessions for the weekend. I don’t see myself really focusing on HPDE events until I get comfortable with doing it.
Anyone experiences with them?
Did you ever experience fade on the track or glazing?
How many HDPE Events could you usually get out of them?
The car I'll be putting them on is an 84 VW GTI (est. 2,100 lb curb weight) with a stock motor (est. 90 hp), upgraded 10.1 rotors, SS braided lines, and Direzza ZII Star Spec tires.
With a car that light you'll probably be ok. However remember that they're not track pads and you can fry them pretty easily...

Generally not a good reputation for these for track use?
Never used them personally, but I think a friend had Repco(sp?) metalmasters on his gti as a street / autoX pad. Maybe you could find a NOS set? Or what about one of the EBC pads?
I used to run 3000s in the front and 2500s in the rear while running stage rally and liked that setup much more then hawk blacks in the front with blues in the rear.
In reply to mrwillie:
No to EBCs I've never been more underwhelmed by pads whether the reds, greens or yellows. Carbotech, hawk, feredo, performance friction or Porterfield all long before EBC.
Well the DS2500's aren't track pads. There's really no one do it all street/auto-x/track pad out there.
Since your car is so light (and relatively low powered) you can get away with less pad...
In reply to captdownshift:
Gotcha. Good to know. I've never used any of the EBC's, but have heard that the reds were a decent "overall pad".
In reply to mrwillie:
For spirited street driving they're okay. On track they'll leave you praying for enough run off and soft walls
In reply to captdownshift:
Ouch....
