I'm thinking I need a pickup, and I was madly in love with the newer Toyota Tacomas. I thought the 4-door option would be perfect (as we're still having kids), and I really miss the utility of an open-bed pickup, but the "switched" 4wd is really a deal-breaker for me
So! What options are there for a 4wd, 4-door truck, with a manual transmission, manual transfer case, that has "character"? (I'd rock a Hilux any day of the week, but they're not old enough to be imported yet)
I'm not so much a fan of this:
I'm looking more something like this:
If it's old enough (think 50's) then 4wd isn't a necessity.
Failing a truck:
Has anyone put a dead deer in the trunk of their car? How did that work out?
Good times.
Too bad it has to be an auto. Love my 1st Gen Tacoma DBL Cab with manual transfer case. I think it has character since it seems so small now compared to the new trucks. I can't think of anything now except converting a Jeep Unlimited would be awesome. Oh yeah, a rear facing convertible car seat has stolen my passenger front seat. Also, the new one's have even less legroom believe it or not.

Would you expect any less?
Here's everything but the 4wd but even that is likely possible.
Isuzu NPR 4 door crew cab
why is switched 4wd a deal breaker? Seems to be working just fine for the taliban.

I have entered my own version of hell.
I started a "What Car" thread and all links to craigslist kill my internet for 5-minutes.
That power wagon is the business though!

You fail to disappoint, Sir.

In my opinion the Laforza doesn't get full masochist point value since, despite being Italian, it has a 5.0/AOD/new process drivetrain.
EDIT: oh god now I can't get the image of a Biturbamino out of my head

I am kind of impartial though :)
the bed on the FJ60 is a bit small, but you definitely have my interest. Is this something that's readily offered in the states?
Shame these were never available in the US

Competence > character IMO

I dig it. It seems like most of the vehicles I lust after aren't available in the US. I've also noticed a severe decline in my automotive ADD since returning to the states (firearm's ADD is as strong as ever though). When I went to Australia for a visit my head about exploded! THEY have some cool vehicles!
Back on subject:
Something like an Aussie Hilux would tickle me PINK!
Look at that beaut! A real color (other than the beige, grey, and white Washington seems to be over run with), Bed rails, 4-doors, mmm-Mmm-MMM! I miss bed-rails. nothing like having an infinite amount of tie down points. Why'd they ever move away from such a useful feature?

the clad avalanches have loads of "character"
if by character you mean lots of faded plastic and silly bulbous wheel arches.
therefore i'd vote that, then lift it and put some meaty tires on non brodozer rims.

He could always put the original drivetrain back in it....
