Awww hell...

Have you seen those cars in person?

You can tell they were done in a week.

No I've never seen one in person.

Normally, I don't care what someone does with their own car, even more so when it's a cookie-cutter GM, Ford or Dodge product like they usually tackle.

As bad as that car is, it should go to a Porsche specialist to be made new again.

If the want to "make it cooler" go dredge up one of the Intermeccanica speedster replicas and screw it up instead.

I thought the car came out pretty nice. I wasn't crazy about the wheels but they were a normal size, and a little paint thinner would get rid of the graphics on the sides.

I wouldn't be complaining if the Overhaulin' crew "stole" anything I owned. I wish I had the luxury of pointing the finger and saying "These guys do crap work."

I'm not saying they do crap work.

I'm saying the cars look like they've been screwed together in a week.

There's only so much ANYONE can do in that kind of time frame.

I'd be delighted to have anything they've worked on. Tightening a few bolts and setting the timing correctly are much easier to accomplish for most people than a full-blown restoration. They do all the hard work; I can tighten up the loose ends.

The only negative to the show is idiots watch it and think you actually CAN restore an entire car in a week. What they fail to realize is that there is an entire team of people working nearly solid 24 hr days to get it to happen. It tends to make restoration work look too easy to those who have never attempted it.

So have you actually seen one for yourself in person? Which one?

All I saw was the 15 second clip, is there a full episode or result somewhere?

It aired last night (7/29) - should show up 'on demand' shortly.

I've always wondered what those cars look like over the years, let alone right after they were done. I suppose they would be fine if you babied them like any other restoration.

...and I agree, they could take on any of my cars and redo them(no huge wheels, big graphics please)and I'd be fine with whatever they came up with. That's a LOT of man-hours and the price is right.

I thought the car turned out really nice. The bumper mod looked very up to date in terms of if they were light weight racing bumpers. The engine was largely stock- color was more window dressing- which is fine. Interior was sharp, and thankfully, they found a correct wheel instead of the Momo garabage that it came with.

The rear window change- eh.. but that's just me. At least it looks like it is meant to be there.

What I don't like- the owners. It's not as if this was some kind of forgotten project, or a family heirloom. no, it was a POS that they bought two years ago. I've NOT worked on my projects for longer than that. Plus, lisenting to the guy- you could tell he knew little about Porsches- "exactly the way it came from the factory" was all of his answers. Yea, not so much. but it's a show.

I think they've given up on the one week deadline stuff, although they still turn them around pretty fast. For the most part they stopped the 'stealing' the car bit as well; in this episode they did mess with the owner for a minute but then told her the truth. I am pretty tired of Chris Jacob's mugging for the camera, though.

I've seen a number of the cars after a few years and they hold up quite well. Chip and crew stand behind their work fully. Which is why Jay Leno has helped them work on a couple cars, including the months-long project Lotus (that was NOT turned around in 7 days). Also anything that isn't right at the reveal stage is taken care of.

The 356 was a previous hack job that was redone quite well. Anyone notice that in the before/after comparison shots it has some questionable Fuchs copy flowery wheels on it, but in the reveal it has much more palatable Empi/Raider style wheels?

I have this feeling that Chip had some wheels made to match his sketch and then saw them on the car and was like, not so much.

I'm sure the owners are happy to have a well restored car for free, but I would have freaked out if they had put a VW rear window in my Porsche. I'm sure this took way way longer that a week with all the patching they had to do.

Just looking at old pictures of 356's- the VW rear window isn't that far off of an early 356 rear window- not sure when they went to the full wraparound line in that car.

So this was kinda sorta an early retro-mod. Modern car with old style parts on it.

The VW is just a little smaller....

That Lotus they did was really cool. Major mods to the frame and body along with a new motor and transaxel. Great seats as well.

I hate the color scheme and wheels on this car so so bad. That car deserves a solid color and some correctly sized wheels. I did like the actual modifications to this car.

Subjective...the real shame was the owner couldn't begin to get in and out of the thing and barely fit behind the wheel... (we've moved on to the Europa)

I am pretty much a porsche fanboi. I cringed at the thought of them doing a 356, but it turned out nice. The mods looked nice and fit an outlaw 356. The rear window thing was pretty sketchy and as a p-car will hurt it (unless the foose name is enough of an offset to make up for it). I like the interior.
