I got a Ford Five Hundred for my wife almost two years ago (on a side note this is the longest I’ve gone without buying a car in a very long time……anyway) the ride has gone very soft. Oddly enough there aren’t a lot of enthusiast sites for this car but I’m looking for recommendations for a new set of stiffer struts. Can any of you point me in the right direction?

One bit of info. My wife gets a bit car sick in the car when she isn’t driving but never has an issue in the Miata…..

Thanks. RS

Buy Fords replacement shocks and springs.

Pretty much the only real ones available.

If you can find some basic aftermarket ones- good quality replacements- I would go that direction.

nough said.

Oh, the shocks. Not the springs.

FWIW

I am suspious that the 500 and the mazda6 are kissing cousins. Perhaps some mazda parts would fit?

Damm near every part on the bottom of my 6 bears the mark of the beast (FoMoCo)...

The 500 is built on a platform (Ford D3) which is based on the Volvo P2 chassis (S80, et al)

The smaller Fusion is related to the mazda6

If you haven't checked them out already, try going to www.blueovalnews.com and checking out their forum for tips on the 500. There may not be anything related to what you are looking for, I haven't been there in awhile, but maybr they can point you in the right direction.

I stand corrected.

I had thought the fusion and 500 were part of fords badge engineering program that Ford implemented when things started going sour for them and were essentialy the same car.

no, the FiveHundred (not 500) is the new Taurus. nobody retained the numeric name, so they went with an old faithful one.

I saw Alan Mulally (ex-Boeing - new Ford Pres) on Autoline Detriot and he said that he was shocked the Five Hundred wasn't named Taurus because the Taurus name had such a great reputation........honestly if it was called a Taurus when I was looking for a car for my wife she would have never bought it even though they are the same car.......I wonder what he thinks of the Pinto name.....Yea dump the name Focus and change it to Pinto.......

The Taurus name was great until 1996 when they restyled it to look like a catfish, and then left it that way for 10 years.

My parents have had 3 different Tauruses. While they all drove about the same, the late '90s re-style was a real turnoff. My father traded a Corsica for a '97 or '98 Taurus and the "center stack" is a continuation of sorts of the weird exterior styling. Looking at the HVAC AND the radio you see a "field" of same sized buttons. Changing the station, heck, even the volume on the radio if you don't drive this car everyday...exclusively, is a hopeless exercise. If I was looking for a sedan in the mid/late '80s, I would have bought a Sable. I'd pass on one of the late '90s Tauruses OR Sables....unless it had the 24valve engine, and MIGHT buy an '00s model of either, as long as it had the front bucket seats. My Mom's '03 Taurus has a bench front seat and that screwy flip console.
