The Datsun was missing one thing, a higher stall torque converter to take advantage of all the newfound horsepowers on the strip. With 1 more second of quarter mile time i would have had the top dynamic racing score in $2016. My mph indicates that the car has way more than that in it and i left it all on the line with what felt like a malfunctioning stock stall converter that was flashing at 1000rpm, leaving me launching barely at idle to 2.15 60' times. My freaking stock 94 lumina on street tires and a 140hp 3.1 went 2.15. Trap speed on the big end was 122.6 indicating that the 12.1 ET is laughable.
Problem: i spent $2015.xx and have a paltry $7 left in recoup. That's not going to cut it on a $600 torque converter.
Last week summit racing sent me a $25 off $150 coupon in the mail. So working in akron i went over one day after work, and there's my $600 converter on the clearance shelves for $160 with no signs of installation, in an open box. 3200 stall check. Lsx check. 4l65e check. $135 with my coupon
Where to find $134? So far i can remove the $58 dipstick and tube and install a 35 cent plug for the event. Next up is the $55 tablet and $4 bluetooth obd dongle and lose my digital dash and put the analog tach back in that came with the car plus a 90 cent resistor to make it read the computers tach signal. Last? I just lowballed the same fuel cell on ebay that i spent $134 for 2 years ago, and had a counter offer of $88 shipped.
There's my budget room
Datsun is backup car this year but prefer to keep it eligible. No guarantees the plan for this year gets done. Will be doing extensive testing this summer to verify it'll be much faster, and i found so much budget room i can probably find a deal on front springs to tighten up the autocross portion.
Now if only tim could get adam corolla to be a concours judge i have a shot at overall. Datsun? 11 out of 10!
