Talking about people slamming into drive from reversing while the vehicle is still moving. My Honda Fit made a hell of a noise when the wife did it. We had a conversation afterwards. But then my boss does it in his truck 24/7. Granted, it’s a diesel f350.
How does that affect the automatic trans?

You’re killing me here. LOL
GM did it repeatedly on video. I can't find the video ATM.
I know with mushy 1980's gm fwd transmissions it was a non event. With 1980's Hondas it was like a clutch drop.

I discovered that teh Volvo will not allow a D-R shift while in forward motion.
R-D is just fine. Probably Reverse is only there as a convenience to the driver and is not meant for heavy load, while the forward gears are much more sturdy.

I remember that commercial clearly. I'd like to say it was a Sunbird. 100 forward-reverse-forward shifts at WOT, car moving back and forth maybe a half car length, smoke roiling from the tires, hangers-0n cheering...
Most assuredly staged for the commercial, but it still sticks with you.
Circa 1994 we had a then new Taurus SHO. It is allegedly great fun when getting into the car to Brake torque it in reverse at WOT. Foot off the brakes still at WOT then slam it from R to D at the same time you wind in full lock. You the do a long awesome almost stationary burn out as the front slowly rotates in the direct of the lock. Slowly wind off lock as you straighten up in the lane then you can shoot off. Dumb as hell, utterly stupid but spectacular and fun. Fun times.
Edit. Should have said we had a pool car. Not my own car!
You could get an auto SHO in 94?

Yep. They pretty much had to redesign the front of the car to make it work since the transmission needed to make the engine sit in a different place. They re-used the transmission for the 4.6 Continental.

Yeah, the 2g cars could be had with 3.2/auto as well as 3.0/manual iirc.

They increased the displacement to 3.2 specifically for the automatic cars to overcome the additional drag from the trans and make it more automatic-friendly.
And then there's the person I know up here who had a 3.2 that was stroked to 3.6, mated to the 5-speed, and managed to get the trans so hot during a trackday that he destroyed the ring and pinion because the case got so soft that the gear mesh went all akilter.
His trackday stories are hilarious.
Not R -> D, but SWMBO somehow manages to get the van in gear and rolling out the garage before the engine has fully started. It's both terrifying and seriously amazing. It's like "Vroo...thunk/roll...oom".

Series 2 cars from 92 up.
mousie, I just don't want to find out the Hard way that I need a new tranny. I guess if Daddy didn't care . My Daddy was twice my size as was his Belt. and welt's on your butt were the REAL Results. But if you grew up in a Time where it wasn't Acceptable to Punish your own Kid for Tearing up the Car then who I'm I to care. plus I am 35 years older than you. Cars wern't Disposible and Transmissions wern't as strong.

I just scrapped a plow truck* that had U-Joints so berked up, they had about 45° of slop in them. After seeing that, I reassessed my plans to yank the transmission out of it.
* I got it cheap, for the plow, not the truck.

20+ years ago I daily drove a Samurai. It didn't have a clutch safety switch so it could be turned over in gear. I got really good at parking head out and feathering the gas so I could start it in gear. I managed to scare the ever living E36 M3 out of a lot of passengers. Something about the thing just leaping out of the spot without being started first really startled people. I loved it. The scaring people I mean. Hmm maybe I'm kind of a jerk.

Oh, hey. I meant no disrespect. I just didn’t understand what “sun shells” meant, and it made me laugh, so I typed “you’re killing me” as in “you’re killing my sides”
All Good, I thought you knew the Parts Inside of a Transmission, Ultra Clyde recently Gave Me a 200 r4 that came from a Buick Grand National that was a DragRacer No Line Lock or anything but when I disassembled it the Shell had A Huge Crack In it as well as Burned up Clutch's so that being a more Modern Transmission It likely with stood more abuse than I could have ever thought Possible.
I don't know whether it is still true, but Honda automatics used to use a reverse idler gear like a manual trans, instead of a planetary to create reverse. That's why they always made a crunch going into reverse. Wouldn't surprise me if a Fit still used that design.
TL;DR: Don't shift your Honda into reverse while moving.
A friend of mine told me his daughter climbed over the shifter while on the freeway and shifted it from D to R. Lots of skidding, shift back to D and drive off... Powerglide.
Clearly this was a few years ago.
Myth busters did an episode were they slammed some old malaise era whoopty into P from D @50mph. It didn’t do anything. Just kept on gliding, like an ugly malaise car would.
On a Saturn when the valve body clogs it effectively does the same thing. With enough hard shifts to R from D, the input shaft nut will loosen. Then the car starts losing gears.
On the plus side, people will pretty much throw out a Saturn with a malfunctioning auto. You can open up the case from the wheel well, tighten the nut with an impact, and it will work fine again.
