2 stories.
1.  about a year and a half ago, the gas tank fell out of our 00 maxima breaking the sending unit.  We replaced the sending unit and plactic lines plus a new o-ring.  Since then you can't fill the tank normally, you have to basically trickle gas in (20-30 minutes to fill the tank).
2. 01 Yukon XL 2500 is doing the same thing, but we just got it and don't know it's history at all.
we had a similar issue on a 92 Civic VX that we fixed by running a new vent hose (sorry forget the exact details on this one)

I'm thinking that on the first 2 I should install some sort of vent valve into the tank that will release pressure when it gets to pressurized.

Anyone have any thoughts or ideas?
I don't want to drop the tank on either vehicle if at all possible.  These are rusty chicago vehicles.

Maxima probably has a pinched hose from the tank to the evap cannister, or a hose routed wrong.  Drop the tank again after you find a hose routing diagram.

The Yukon has a bunch of dust in the vent solenoid filter, or maybe in the cannister.  Won't have to drop the tank on it.

we'll check the Yukon.  the maxima we already did check about 7 months ago and everything looked normal.  Dropping that tank isn't likely going to happen again.  too much of a time consumer.

Early S197 mustang's had a recall for a similar problem that was related to blocked vent hoses on the gas tank. Sounds like you're on the right path.

You'll need to log in to post.
