Hey guys,
I live in FL and I'm staying in the Johns Creek GA area for business until tomorrow. I have about three hrs Saturday morning for a nice drive before I need to head back home. I'm looking for any suggestions for nice driving roads I can explore that don't take me too far out of this area. Obviously something like US129 would be great but that's too far out for this trip.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Jonathan
I'm sure someone more familiar with the area will chime in, but I would head up towards Atlanta Motorsports Park. GA 53 heading East/West through there is a nice drive, to my recollection. If you ask nicely, they might even let you in to take a look at the track at AMP.
I was on Google maps looking for good roads and thought 53 looked nice and I didn't even know AMP was out that way.

If it fits your schedule tomorrow try stopping by Auchumpkee Creek Covered bridge around 1130 or so. Come on and get your fill of LBC eye candy and the sweet smell of sometimes over rich SUs!
The British Auto Owners Group of Middle Georgia will be have a drive / photo shoot at the bridge. I live kind of sort of close so I'm just going to meet them there. https://www.facebook.com/groups/187856924562162/

Man that sounds like fun. Unfortunately I don't think I can make that time frame but I would definitely love that.
This is why I hate living in Fl... So many fun roads and great car events in the smoky Mountain area. I was I could stay.
Get up much earlier than you planned and drive up to Dahlonega and take hwy 19 north. It may be worth the extra time.
Put Suches, GA into Google maps. The directions will take you up through Dahlonega and up HWY 60 which is a fun streach of road. From there turn right onto HWY 180, another fun road. When that ends, turn right onto HWY 129/19, yes, the same 129 that the dragon is on. Turn right onto HWY 19, that will take you back to HWY 60 where you can turn left and head back to Dahlonega. The triangle made by 60-180-129/19 is a fun loop that I take when I'm looking for some fun.
What time are you planning on going?
I need to be in Marietta GA for family around 10am so I really don't think I have time to drive all the way to 129. I know I would love to. I drove my car through Deals Gap a few years ago and would love to go back. If I left Johns Creek around 6am do you think I could make it back in time?
Four hours would be pushing it to do the loop I mentioned.
I would love to.... Sounds like a great drive!
Google maps says it will take 3hrs 15 min. So I can leave Johns Creek at 6:30 and make the loop before my other plans. Thanks for the tip, I will let you know how it goes.

tomtomgt356 - Thanks for the advice! I made the trip and had a great time!
Whats funny is when I got to HWY180 I stopped at the gas station and immediately recognized it! Back in 08 my family was staying on Blood Mountain and I came across a bunch of Vetts going for a drive. I tagged along and HWY180 was one of the roads we took. Somewhere I have a picture of me in my camaro at this gas station completely surrounded by Corvettes. It was a very memorable experience and I was so happy to relive it.
Thanks again. Next time I will post up with more notice and maybe get a group together.
