There's no Lotus left in that car other than the body, and that has been totally massaged as well. The drivetrain is Toyota. The suspension and steering are aftermarket.

Chip Foose is the real deal. I've been lucky enough to run into him many times at shows / events / etc, he's always been a nice guy and a class act. He's been in the automotive industry his entire life, and hasn't burnt bridges---- everyone seems to like and respect him. Well....everyone who has met him and has seen his work at least-- those are the opinions I value.

I do wish they'd put something other than 20" wheels on the cars they "Overhaul", but it's T.V., and most folks like the gianormous wheels these days. At least the lucky recipient can change wheels easily--- the rest of the work they do seems pretty legit, and well done.

I'm not usually a huge fan of the paint and interior work they do, and I almost never like the wheel choice. The metal/body work is incredible, though. I like the fact that they puts days worth of work into details 9 out of 10 (or more) people wouldn't even notice.

I also like that they've turned down the messing with the owner/impending deadline/"we'll never get this car done in time" crap. That was getting really old.

he burnt at least one bridge- Boyd wasn't too impressed when Chip got sick of working for him and struck out on his own, taking a good chunk of his clientele over the years..

Yes, but Boyd was an shiny happy person and drive many of his talented people away over the years, so I think it shows how bad Boyd was to work with and how smart Foose is. Most clients follow the people they enjoy working with and can do the job with the most creativity.

" . . . and a class act."

No question. He brings a huge degree of class and good will to his program and the hobby/industry as well. Of all of the programs and designers and fabricators out there, I honestly like him best. Not sure if we're seeing repetition rather than just a style of mild customizing that works within the time and scope of what his program is all about. The cars that he does for award competition are a different breed, the earlier cars that he made his bones on are yet another facet of his talent and skill. All combined, I don't think that there's anyone better right now.

Boyd's shop was going bankrupt when Foose left. That may have been a concern to the guys that followed him, too.

I used to be in the hot rod industry and spent the better part of a day at Foose's shop when they were taping one of the early Overhaulin' episodes. Chip is a very cool guy in person and has a great memory for the names and faces of people he meets. He's also an incredibly talented artist, stylist, and builder.

That said, I did name this car Chip when I bought it simply because of his painting tendencies:

You guys know that as far as I know, no one has ever seen that Europa move under its own power. Look at the show. They pushed it in at the end. And the audio of them starting it "for the first time" was not accurate, as the real "first time" it started, the clutch area went "bang-bang-bang-bang." Word on teh intrawebz from someone that was there. Europa circles are only so large.

His drawing skills are amazing. If I had 1/100 the talent...

My problem with the show is that almost all cars are from So Cal. How about going on the road and hitting, oh I don't know, Pittsburgh?

I liked the Bronco that he did a few years ago. He is extremely talented and very detail oriented. The bumper tucks alone help make the car(s).

Ups the cost for the production team dramatically. They don't care where the cars come from.

Also, I doubt the builders want to spend all week fixing rust.

I don't think there are any original parts in the drivetrain. The rear suspension was even custom. They did a LOT of work on that car.

The new girl is actually making the show worse. I have not been able to watch a complete episode. Hell I have been able to watch more than 20 min of the show with the new girl. She needs to go.

Jessie was an asset to the show and raised it many notches from where it was when she first joined. The new girl is hurting the show. I really can not stand her. She obviously knows very little about cars and the work going. She is supposed to be eye candy and she is failing at that due to he talking. Ruins it every time. She needs to be like one of those girls at a boxing match. Let her carry a sign around the shop every 24 hours counting down the days to the reveal. Then she should go away.

I don't get Velocity due to living in the wrong cable company's boundaries. That being said, having watched much of the original episodes, and reading through this discussion, I don't feel as I have missed anything groundbreaking.

That being said, if The Chip really wanted to tackle something different, my Geeyota Prisrolla would make a fine canvas... and I could sell the grotesquely oversized wheels and get something I wouldn't be able to afford otherwise, and still have some beer money left over.

...but is still in shakedown mode from Europa board reports. I'd be more concerned with the extensive suspension mods (they moved around the control arm pickup points for wheel clearance)than shakedown issues. I'd rather stick with a Chapman designed suspension.

It's entirely believable that not all cars on the show are complete, sorted vehicles at the end of the episode. But what I don't believe is that some of these cars never get completed. If that were the case, they'd have a lot of law suits, likely enough to put an end to the show. Everything I've ever heard about Chip from people who have met him is extremely positive. I really don't think he'd let owners go away unhappy.

I loved that show.

Then I started a restoration, and folks were going "What, why can't you have the bodywork finished tomorrow night after supper?", and I had to explain that the Overhaulin program brings in a few dozen extremely talented guys to work on one car nearly 24 hours a day with an almost unlimited budget.

Now I hate that show.

Well, good. I'm glad they got it running. I, too, was concerned with their changing the front suspension to fit the wheels. And the back suspension was a total redesign as well. Not to mention welding in 1/4" plate to reinforce the chassis, and I'm not sure what they were trying to strengthen by putting it on top like that. Anyway, I'm sure it will still be fun.

I used to watch Boyd's show and it always made we wonder why anyone would pay him to build a car. The show made the entire operation seem like a terrible place to work and most of the workers hated the car they were working on. It was very strange that someone would allow themselves to be the basis of a show whose only purpose was to show that you were an ass and not a nice person and that your workers hated the work they were doing. It was the opposite of an infomercial. I realize that reality TV is not reality, but that show was stupid and either shows that Boyd was clueless, desperate for money, or an utter egomaniacal psychopath.

Overhaulin' at least managed to show the work going into the car without all lot of the stupid drama. Sure it still had the unreasonable time pressure, but most of the intra-shop politics were either edited out or Foose just ran a much better place. Foose seems to me to be a guy I'd like to meet and hang out with even if I may have different tastes in cars. I'd give him any of my cars for an overhaulin' with no questions asked.
