I was driving down the road today and came upon, what I suppose is the latest Honda Fit. Wow, they have really messed up the design. I hear great things about that little sucker but damn they've made it uglier then it has to be.

I like it more from the front than the rear, but overall it's still a step in the wrong direction for me. The one feature that it does have over the previous generation, is the increased rear seat room. I didn't initially see much advantage to this, as at 6' I still have no complaints about the rear seat legroom even behind my own drivers seating position. But as newish parents, ALL subcompacts and compacts are absolutely terrible at fitting rear facing car seats with two adults in the front...Except the new Fit! It supposedly sacrificed a little trunk space for this unique feature, but at a glance I wasn't able to spot the difference. That alone is still not enough to get me to trade in for one though.
I hear you. I was reading one magazine article the other day (Motor Trend I believe) and they praised the car for a variety of reasons, interior space being one of them. I always thought they were cool but not so much after what I saw today.
There has always been one thing that kept me from ever considering a fit...
Seriously, the longer I stare at that logo the angrier I get.
Yeah, not sure what the logo rage is all about.
I don't think the new car is stunning, but I don't find it horrible. The previous generations weren't prize pigs either, fairly generic. The new one has a lot of Versa Note styling in it, but whatever. It's a damn versitle little thing, hope it's as fun to drive as the first gen was.
The anger is more towards the drivers here. The fit drivers over here have a habit of driving under the speed limit by a fair amount. Unlike the previous gen fit which had a basic logo that matched the car, the newer one looks like it wants to be fast. Its stronger styling cues say the car should not be driving under the speed limit. So as I am stuck behind one on a secondary road for prolonged periods of time, that little blue dot really becomes a focal point.

It's not.
The relatively quick steering rack in the first gen was deemed too darty. They're already starting to pork it up and numb it down, just like the Civic.
I don't mind it so much, but I do like the early cars better. I would like to see Honda slow down some of the evolution in regards to the styling on their cars, but that's not what the public wants. It (the Fit) will continue to grow and morph and then they will introduce, or bring over, another smaller sub compact replacement in 8-10 years.

Exactly...every year they will tout "more shoulder space" or more "knee room" when they make it larger to the point where something smaller will eventually be needed again.
Actually, the new fit is 1.6 inches shorter in length than the previous generation. The extra rear seat room mostly seems to come from even more space efficient packaging, which is no small feat. On a quick, non-aggressive, drive I also didn't think it drove differently enough from our Fit to care much either way. In spite of the stupidly geared new 6speed, too light clutch, and questionable styling changes, I actually still liked it very much for its intended purpose.
The new one is actually 1.6" shorter, less than .5" wider and weighs a whole 33lbs more but now has a 6 speed manual, 11% more power (130hp vs 117), and 7% more torque (114 vs 107). But yes bad Honda.. Bad.

Right you are.
I like how it looks. If it had two less doors it would be even better.
The Japanese designs seem to be reverting back to the 70s and 80s styles when they all looked like futuristic space ships. Remember the Datsun B210 and 200SX or the Subaru XT for examples? Houston we have a problem.

No kidding. Too darty...puh-lease. Gee, I dunno, let's see...take a really light weight car with tires the size of a go-cart and give it a good steering rack. Add those together and what do you get? I guess the general population calls it "darty". I called it "fun as E36 M3". My wife's '08 was slow as could be, but it never failed to put a smile on my face when the roads got twisty. Especially when I consider how little I paid for it, how roomy it was, and that it got near 40mpg. Damn shame to water it down.
My only problem with the Fit is that it should be called the Jazz, like it is everywhere else.
I think it looks ok- Its been modernised with Edsel taillights, just like everything else built in the last few years.
Note: I don't really know if they look like Edsel taillights, since I don't pay attention to Edsels, but they look like what I think an Edsel taillights might look like...
The real news about the Fit is probably the HR-V. Sounds like the same basic car but in CUV form. Word is they have even utilized the "magic seat". Nobody wants a crappy little hatchback, but EVERYONE wants a crappy little CUV.
