Simple scenario. Fresh install of a GM TBI setup on a previously carbed car. Will be run by Megasquirt.

Looking at the inline external fuel pumps that my vendors offer. I see a few that are 10-14PSI and for triple the cost I see a 30PSI unit.

From what I understand the TBI internal regulator is 13psi and can be overwhelmed by a regular EFI pump so I don't want to overdo it.

Will I be ok with the 10-14 psi 35gph carb pump? Or do I need more margin for error?

Need more margin.

Honestly I have about 4k miles on an e2000 pump powered tbi swap in my 64 with no issues that I know of. Regulator reads dead nuts 13psi all the time. And the tbi has never been rebuilt that I know of. No indication that anyone other than gm ever touched it.

I'd go with the factory GM unit, or a modern pump and a regulator.

Ti the best of my knowledge, there were no factory gm rail mount tbi pumps.

Walbro MAY have a low pressure inline pump.... GCL612 is their one inline low pressure pump

I'm running a 190 lph TPI fuel pump on the 454 TBI swap in my 79 GMC Dually. The TBI has an adjustable fuel pressure regulator and handles the higher pressure pump just fine. I am running it at 18-20 psi to better work with the mods done to the engine, but can run it at 13 psi if needed. This is with 3/8" feed and 5/16" return lines.
