It’s official. GM is entering Formula 1 with its Cadillac brand. In addition to the team, they plan to build its own vehicles and power units by the end of the decade, making the Cadillac Formula 1 Team a works team.
The organization will be run by TWG Global. Who are they? They own and oper…

I heard a lot of rumours, but I didn't think much of any of them.
Very exciting news.
Time to do a Cadillac project.
JG, where can we run a Catera?
Don't get me wrong, love F1 but its been very predictable the past few seasons. I think this will shake things up and I am 100% on board with it and excited to see what a new team will bring.
In reply to Paris Van Gorder :
I've noticed a shift this year–not quite as predictable as previous seasons.
And, with a whole new set of regulations coming in 2026, things could get very interesting.

Tell me that you'll compete under the pseudonym of "Dr. Lisa Catera".

Or throw as many Camaro parts as possible onto an ATS?
Wait, that's my idea.
The ATS-V is neat and can be crazy fast, but I'm a fan of the regular 3.6 powered cars. And they could be had with all wheel drive. And the ATS has a shorter wheelbase, and the 4 door is smaller than a Camaro.
Hmm...

If this had only come a couple weeks earlier you could have bid on this :)

Here's The Race's interpretation of the news https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LEvVp5hElfo
One interesting point is that right now, they are the only team who can work on an 2026 car, and have unlimited CFD and wind tunnel time, since they are not bound by the current limits. (they have been doing a lot of work in Toyota's wind tunnel so far)

That is the only way to get anywhere near close enough to competitive for a new entrant. Not being part of the full regulation allows the new team to not stink up their debut. The challenge is the rules for 2026 are not 100% final yet, so they MAY be working in areas that get adjusted. The current F1 rules for graduated CFD and tunnel time do make some effort to equalize the field, but the levels of iterative gains are small. New team have the added challenge of not having something to iterate from and have to do a lot of the basic work from the ground up. That goes for all of the systems not just aero.

That summed it up well. I knew I used too many words.
In reply to stafford1500 :
It helps, but it's no certainty. If they choose badly, it could bury the team for years. Prior teams have spent lots of times on the new rules and it resulted in not much change. It should help, though. For sure, if they start out fast, Horner will be whining about it.
Something I said a long time ago is that Cadillac has the ability to develop their engine package in their IMSA cars without being bound to the F1 testing limitations.

I've said it before... I want to read about Catera and Lincoln LS low buck project cars going head to head

They never said who they'd source their initial powertrains from... Sounds like perfect timing for a Cadillac powered by Ford in 2026.
I feel like I've seen this movie before though, and it doesn't end well.
In reply to Driven5 :
The Race points out that it's really one of two choices- Ferrari and Honda. And Ferrari is apparently more likely because Sauber moving to Audi. But if that falls through, Honda will as per the rules. Count out Red Bull/Ford and Audi because they are new makers, no Renault, and Mercedes has plenty of customers already.
I kind of agree that Ferrari seems more likely until GM has their own engine. But imagine if they use a Honda powertrain- using the engine from their Indycar competitor... pretty amusing.

andretti died for our sins. (is how we are joking about it internally)
- related/unrelated to latest lay offs?
- will this impact my bonus?
- I have seen a number of f1 related positions hiring
- we will end production of the HFv6 soon
- we fumbled hybrids in production cars but the LMDH car is a riot
- I hope I get to help print something for the car work related so I can be apart of f1 and check that box
it all just seems so weird for an "all electric future" and yet I have travel restrictions due to budget.

Hey, I have a Caddy that's a "little red sports car." Okay, okay, it's far removed from F1 technology, but Arnold Palmer endorsed it.
In reply to STM317 :
They are keeping Mario Andretti on as a director on the board. I also read they'll be using Ferrari engines to start with?
