I am considering a camera in my work truck windshield to CMA in case on of the stunts stupid drivers pulls in front of me goes bad.
Too many choices and not having played with any of the candidates.
Looking at a 3 white they say it's super wide angle, will this look far enough forward to be usefull?
Also all of the mounts seem to be based on the waterproof housing, I assume Ill have to drill a hole in the case to provide USB power so I don't have to depend on battery power. Looking at suction cup WS mount can do other though. Recording in loop mode on a big chip.
Any thoughts?

It will work well, but there a few dedicated dash cams on the market for around a hundred bucks that will record in loop mode and automatically come on and start recording as soon as they get power.
For the gopro option, they do have a non-shell wraparound case but I don't know if it has holes for the power port or not.

I've heard good things about this thing: http://www.spytecinc.com/g1w-1080p-hd-car-dash-camera.html
If it's not a track vehicle, why try to make an expensive camera work when existing and better solutions are cheaper? I consider better to mean "good enough to clearly establish fault while being on whenever the ignition is on without user intervention."
GoPro is a bit spendy for a dash cam. Here is a short video I shot with a GoPro white. The car is my B3 powered Miata. http://youtu.be/7pJc8jaDkY0

GoPro won't do what you want as a dash cam.
Still fun though
Pretty much a BlackVue is what you want...

If real money is on the table, I'd rather get the Garmin Dash Cam 10. Bad: does AVIs only (use VLC to watch on your computer). Good: they aren't DOA randomly and are from a much more "real" company so support and returns are easier.
Strongly consider a model without GPS just because any amount of speeding is evidence against any insurance claim. Plus, cheaper!
Go with a dash cam. There are entire websites devoted to them. People may think you're from Eastern Europe if you have one, though.

I believe there are cases that are pre-cut to allow access to the various connectors on it. There are for my Hero2, at least.
That said, I'll agree that a GoPro is the wrong solution for this problem, if for no other reason than that it's expensive enough that people will try to steal it. If you want a dash cam, then you want something you don't have to think about taking out of the car every time you park.
