speed2.com is still around if you want to catch some good racing online.
So where's everything going?
I did some searches today and found some races on FS1, which I presume is the old Speed, but at a different spot on the dial and some on NBCS.
fox sports 1 and fox sports 2 will still air most of the grand am and the new horrible acronymed named sports car series.
Fox wanted to get into the sports network biz like everyone else... since it's cheaper and easier to just change the format of an existing station than it is to start over with a new one, they switched SPEED over to the more profitable stick and ball coverage.

Verizon only offers it in standard def. But they also like to charge you for two set top boxes when you only have one, charge you for their mistakes when ordering things off the tv (ordered showtime, they gave me starz, tried charging me a dollar for the swtich from starz to showtime...needed it for dexter).
Their coverage of the Grand-Am race was the same as speeds with the exception of crappy music. I just pray that we get le mans next year and full coverage of the rolex 24 and sebring.

FuelTV started out as something awesome--action sports--but is now all lowest common denominator (MMA). It was irreverent and cool, now it's gone to the lunkheads.
Now SPEED followed suit (granted, Speed has been irrelevant for a long time). I don't know why so many outlets are needed to show MMA?!
I wonder how long Velocity will last--they're already declining a bit.
First time I ever saw Speed(vision at the time) was in '99. I actually saw it on my honeymoon in our hotel room in the Bahamas. We didn't have it at home, but our cable company picked it up a few months later. I've been watching bits and pieces ever since. I'm different than a lot of folks here in that I'm a NASCAR fan and don't watch F1 at all (I do watch LeMans, Grand Am, etc...), but even I thought a lot of the NASCAR stuff in recent years was garbage. Perfect example was Trackside. It started out as a low key show talking about racing. It turned into a circus that once in a while kinda sorta mentioned actual racing. I stopped watching that show a few years back. Still sad to see the channel disappear completely. I understand Fox wants a competitor to ESPN, but wish they could have started a new channel.
Frankly, from the little I saw of FS1 over the weekend, I'm not impressed. If they're trying to compete with ESPN, they've got a lot of work to do.
Funny thing - up here our cable provider is still broadcasting Speed???
Did the Fox Sports thing only happen in the US?
Sad to say but I will miss "Pass Time" a little. As much as it was a silly concept it just seemed like everyone had a pretty good time.

did they ever change contestants on that show? Everytime i saw an episode, it was the same 3 guys!
Came home yesterday afternoon fully expecting to watch another repeat episode of, 'My Classic Car'. Granted there's an 8 minute shill after the opening teaser, but still a good show in all it's brevity. Gone. I haven't been so upset since 'Dream Car Garage was axed. And what about the guy with the weird facial hair doing tuner mods. And, the show rebuilding survivors.
Spent some wasted time last night watching West Coast Customs something or other on Discovery, not Velocity. Just not the same. Sadly, an era has passed.
GOOD NEWS!
Turn Left may be broadcasting live from local Midwest events. Anything from dirt track oval, to motocross, and even Asphault Adventures!

Alain de Cadanet flogging on $1 million+ classics and weirdo racing footage (like the big truck racing!) was as good as TV got. I also like Velocity. It has some decent programming. Wheeler Dealers is pretty cool!
The first time I ever saw speed was as an exchange student in Canada. Many was the poor freshman who thought they could change the channel on me when I was watching these two shows. It's likely that I am solely responsible for a generation of southern Canadians thinking Americans are hostile.

I'm probably the only person in history to go on exchange in Canada and have to drive 300 miles south to get there. Well, maybe not the only one, but it sure confused the Canadians when I told them I was looking forward to the mild winter for a change.

It's "Speed" with "direction" really
(sorry, it wouldn't be GRM without a speed/velocity pun)
