This is also very much not the a model. It's more like the b or c model. It should be a refined machine at this point not showing teething issues.
You're correct. I think the engine stuff is overblown. I'm still going to treat it just like my '15 BRZ I bought new.
Play with it a bit, good fluids, quality mods, and drive it. I admit I was a bit nervous, but it has a warranty, so I'm just going to drive it and enjoy it.
And if the worst of the worst happens, who says you were autocrossing? I know a friend that had an ...issue... with a light pole. Went home, removed all the SCCA vinyl, called his insurance and reported the issue he had on the way to work that day.

I may try it a few times, but I'm really more setting it up to be a nice, fun street car.
Excellent! Dealer just called me, I get to pick up the car tomorrow afternoon!
I am excite!

Remember, kids: Never fly the A model of anything.
That seems very un-GRM. If you no one tried a new thing, they would cease to exist.
But I forget this is the land of hating new cars, then being upset manufacturers don't make new cars they like, because they refuse to buy new cars.
You miss his point
Nope. I completely understood his point, I just don't agree with it.
If no one bought a first year model because of teething issues, then those cars would cease to exist. Which ties in with a common refrain around here about not buying new cars because of the expense, while also complaining that manufacturers don't make cars for enthusiasts anymore.
I put my money where my mouth is when it comes to enthusiast cars. In the last decade or so, I've purchased new, the following enthusiast vehicles:
2010 Mazdaspeed 3
2013 Mustang GT with the Track Pack
2015 BRZ Limited
2023 BRZ Limited
Yep, classic grm "buying new cars is stupid and wasteful......why aren't there any cool used cars anymore?"
Good luck at pickup! No doubt you'll love it.

Thanks! I'll finally have my own car again after the better half and I sharing one the last 18 months.

When I was young I thaught this was cool. Now I realize it is a scum bag move. It makes everyone's rates go up. It makes it so those that need a car just to get by every day to put food on the table can not afford the insurance.
If you can not afford to ball it up and walk away from it don't race it.
Now what you friend did is something that really annoys me. All I can say is I hope he has grown up and realizes that really was not a cool thing to do.
Especially when autocross insurance is basically free. Not sure if it covers purely mechanical failures though.

Yup. He committed insurance fraud, pure and simple. Interesting how relative people's morals become when they benefit from it.

My sister worked for a garbage company and the guys were on a 16" softball league - one of those leagues that had drinking and craziness. These were guys that lifted and emptied the cans and was way before hydraulic lifts.
They would jam or bust a finger and limp to work the next day and claim they got hurt on the truck.
So the owner started attending the softball games.
