Hey guys, we should be at the event his year and wanted to clear some things up for budget and general safety:
-
Is a battery included in the budget? What about battery cables? Is a battery tie-down considered a safety item and free, or does it affect budget?
-
Are fluids (oil, coolant, etc.) included in the budget?
-
Is a fire extinguisher included in the budget?
-
A 4 point harness is free IIRC, but what about a harness mounting solution like a harness bar/hoop/half cage arrangement?
-
Is a firewall necessary for a vehicle with a fuel cell in the rear?
-
Are the normal supplies that a car is modded with added to the budget? Zip ties, tape, etc.
We want to detail every little thing we can to stay within budget and just want to clarify, thanks!

Many of you answers can be fond here:

Take another run through the rules, too, as they address all that. If something is not said to be exempt, it must be counted.

Looking for a fly and drive LS400 on the west coast.
But...does this mean that NitroStripperLexus would then not make an appearance this year or is this long drive for following year?
In reply to JohnRW1621:
It would mean, basically rebuilding the NitroStripperLexus in the parking lot on a different LS400. Send all the parts for it down with someone from this area.
Drive length is Google Maps' total mileage (without routing around traffic or detours for stops) from the spot your Challenge car started to parking lot of Gainesville Raceway.
In reply to Tom Suddard:
Hey, that's merely 2,932 miles. Should be able to burn through that in an afternoon in a $2016 beater.

In your free time tonight check this out for me http://portland.craigslist.org/mlt/cto/5261363403.html I definitely like crazy adventures and would fly in Monday to take it to the challenge.
The only flaw in the plan would be if the 200k Lexus does not make it the nearly 3,000 miles and there is then no NitroStripperLexus at The Challenge.
I have high hopes that NitroStripperLexus will be in the top 7.

I live close to Gainesville, but I have considered driving to the Challenge by way of Los Angeles.

3 more days to get done. trailer not ready, and one of the new tires is going flat. truck is a mess, had to change passenger side ball joints today. car almost ready. cutting it close but tomorrow is going to be nuts. i had the goal of getting the car loaded tonight but the ball joints on the truck and my vinyl lady not showing up screwed that.

Interesting...
The cage is rated to 8.50, or the entire car is?

How bout uranus? If you shoot for 8's the pucker factor may break it.
2 flat trailer tires fixed. Only had 2 new valve stems so left 2 old ones, leaked around both. Lesson learned, skipping 20 minute trip to tractor supply for new valve stems worth 50 minutes of back breaking labor on heavy trailer tires. Currently working in the snow, still waiting for my vinyl lady to show up, trying to finish trailer fabrication work and load tools/spares at the same time. Got to Summit Racing 5 minutes before closing Friday night for last minute safety stuff, and my geekpro GoPro knockoff showed up.
SNOW? Really.
I am 1 hour from you, mostly north and it is 49 degrees here.
I know at this time of year it is warmer by the lake which I am but that is a big temp difference if you are down to 32 degrees.
We have also had no precipitation here at all.
I turned down an offer to go sailing today. Sure, it would have been a cold sail but they went without me.

yep. sun finally came out and flurries stopped. nothing stuck, it all melted as it hit the ground, but i've been working in light snow since yesterday afternoon. we caught a little on the way home from summit friday night too. vinyl lady came(my mom's best friend, not sure how that budget stuff works but she charged me nothing), car now has a little flair.
watching kids while my wife gets some stuff done, then going back out to finish packing the trailer and load the car up.
