I always liked that generation of Ranger. Good luck with chuck
As far as the 2.3T swap goes, if only you were closer, I have a perfectly good longblock complete with turbo sitting in my garage
Raze, if you're ever headed this way....
I registered it today. In the category for Vehicle Type, the title says "Ranger, Super". Then she handed me Chuck's new license plates. They read FST 145. So now one things for certain: I have to make it fast, and I have to bore it .060 over.
update:
I bought new wheel bearings, seals, & grease. Once I dug into it, I found nice tight timken bearings inside, and a backing plate folded around so it rubbed on the disc. So I repacked what was there & moved on.
the front shocks had been replaced at some point, but they were toast. Since I no longer needed the bearing stuff, I felt justified buying some kyb gas-adjusts, instead of the gr2's I originally decided were good enough. What an amazing difference!
a total of 2 tires on the pickup were nice enough to use. Oh hey, my miata was the same way when I bought it. In that instance I went with a full set of falkens. That means I had two leftover miata tires laying around, so I put them on the front of the ford. It's a funny look, but it works for now.
and about moddifying this thing...
i have a miata, and a p71. i would like to have as little overlap between my vehicles as possible. in other words, if i'm going to turbo something, it would probably be the mazda.
one of my friends suggested something to me; "why not a 200 shot". it's cheap, it's easy, it's only there when you need it.
Neat. I would be sleeping on the couch right meow if I did, but i'd not think twice about owning Chuck.

I'm thinking that's what the extended cab is for. reach behind the seat and turn the knob
If I plumb it right, I might be able to hide the whole setup. Most of the time 90 hp is fine. It would never tow like the tritonvic anyway.
So I just went on Craigslist looking for a cheap truck... The only running ones were at least $700 and they didn't even look as nice as this! Where do you guys find these steals?
always be looking. if i'm honest about it, the constant search is kind of a part time job in and of itself. if i just went out and worked like normal people, i probably could have earned a thousand dollars in that time and just bought something.
also, in all but one of my circles of friends, i'm the only car guy. you get a lot of calls for help, but you also get a heads up when they see something they know you'll like. In this instance, the previous owner was a friend of a friend and they came and found me.

They just appear! Conditions that help are:
2.Group of local friends that know you are looking for a (insert vehicle type).
No fear of knocking on doors of farmhouse/multiple apartments/radiator shop/back row car dealers/whatever to check on that 3rd hand rumor.
Head on a swivel, alternate route trips with an eagle eyed buddy who possesses previously mentioned lack of fear.
I found my 89 Ranger less than 200 feet from my house! Over a mile driving trip from one dead end road to another while I wandered down a street that I had not been down in a while. Had seen it before...4 years earlier a Ranger was not on my radar and it was shiny with no flats or trashbags in the back. Of course, as soon as I paid $500 for it, I get directed to 3 more within 10 miles...one I could actually see from my front porch!

Once you turbo your first car you start looking around for other things to boost. You can't have just one turbo'ed vehicle, it is just too addictive.
it wouldn't be the first.
but I that long term it would be cooler if the ranger had a huge NO2 hit, the P71 was supercharged, & the miata had a turbo.
UPDATE: 10/5
i found some 15x8 wagon wheels on craigslist for $50. i painted them bronze, added some narrow blizzaks, and voila....
Lima eh...
I thought a Lima was some sort of animal as well as maybe a engine so I did a Google search. If you have some time to kill, do a Google image search...

cosmetically i'm done, with the exception of occasionally giving it a bath in miracle grow to help keep the moss on the hood alive.
I also just replaced all the exhaust from manifold to tail with 2.5" pipe, adding only a muffler i had laying around my garage. I have some pictures, but they're boring.
