And the first story on the TR3 from this issue:
Cover: Neon, Civic, BMWs, RX7, Datsun Z, Corvette, and Pantera. Ok, so the Pantera is odd man out, but otherwise the same cars would be completely unsurprising on today's cover as well. Interesting.

Palm Coast, maybe?
Sure would like a copy or a scanned image of issue number 2. I wrote a C Stock comparison article in that one.

Is that the famous 'test track' where you also shot the Lexus race cars later on, it later became a subdivision and one of the staff now/did live on one of the corners?

I was thinking the same exact thing....

It is not. You know, only three other people know where that was taken: JG (that's him in the 2002), "slippy the clutch boy" (the guy driving the M3 whose real name we forget) and whoever was driving the camera car (Gabe? Donovan?). At what point does the statute of limitations run out for driving a race car on public streets expire?

For some reason he always reminds me of this guy.

Still live here, and it's pretty much a real neighborhood now. There's not a house on every lot—maybe every 8th or 10th—but it' still way too dense for any kind of "journalism."
Man, we had some cool stuff up here, too. Everything from those Lexuses to IT cars and press fleet cars and even the Callaway team with the C7R one evening. THAT is a wacky story. Maybe that'll be my next column.

PS: And the location of the BMW shot is actually rather innocuous, even though laws were probably technically broken.

Hey Jerry, do you happen to remember where in Palm Coast those autocrosses were? That was a little before my time.
And I'll see if I can track down a #2 for you.

Do you guys have hardcopies of every issue from Auto-X on? I recall requesting a back issue sometime around '98 and received a photocopy instead. Apparently, there was only one known copy left.

Ohhhhh...issue #2. Whew! That makes MUCH more sense...
DeadSkunk wrote: In reply to jstein77: What year and month would that be?
I don't remember what month the second issue was, but the year was 1985. March, maybe? Not sure.
I think the Palm Coast events were in '85 and '86.
If I'm doing this correctly, here are the coordinates from that shoot:
Latitude, Longitude 29.217429,-81.108112
Note that at the time the interstate interchange, overpass, auto mall, fire house and housing developments didn't exist.

We have at least one or two in the files, and reprints are made from those.
You'll need to log in to post.
