I was a list too late respond because it's email only but willing to help.
On another note I just turned 50 and have never been out west. Is an assist list epic tour possible? I'm not needy, just a garage to sleep in each night and someone to recommend the next days journey.
Obviously I could host this type of journey for someone else.

I think I missed some background here

The GRM assist list, that is.
This list.
I thought I was having car issues on a road trip, minor but would require basic tools. My first thought was to see if any was on my route.
And that spurred an epic road trip thought where I just crash in garages for a tour of the USA.
I found wae on that list when I broke down on Kentucky. He came through so hard.
I tried to get in the list myself but I'm not sure the latest update..

There used to be an interactive map, which was cool. It showed where everyone was located on a US map.
In the earlier days of the Challenge, I was living very close to I-75 within a couple hours of Gainesville. I realized looking at that map I was one of the last people that could offer assistance to Challenge competitors headed south to Gainesville, so I offered assistance.
A couple years later Aussie Steve picked up on the idea and created that thread to expand to other areas.
I like the idea, but I sure miss the map. It's become out of date.
Just be sure to put general locations on the map not an address. It would suck if certain people knew where to get a car and some tools.

True.
I don't think it was ever detailed (including address). It was just pins on a map linked to the username.
I rescued turnerx19 one morning and pete was waiting to help when we got to my house

I helped out Capt Downshift a little when his Challenge Deathscort had issues near my general vicinty. I think he found me on the list, but he may have already known where I am, more or less.

That's a fun idea to do a tour of GRM garages. Maybe present camping in them like a tongue in cheek hotel review, even.
And yes the map was handy.
Basic answer, Hell yes! Patrick and Pete were available to rescue when I was stranded in Ohio.

Fortunately, I've never needed to make use of the list myself, however, there have been two occasions where some GRM folk were passing through the area and needed a hand and they found me through that. That said, if anyone wants to do garage camping, you know where to find where to find me!
I found my project binder for the second $2000 Challenge that I attended, 2006, and among the various pages was a print-out of a thread from the forum where folks that were on the main routes to Gainesville had posted locations and contact info in the event that anyone making the trip had any problems. Very much an old-school version of the assist list for back when most phones just did phone things.

My reviews would be hilariously poorly written, with great pictures.
I'll start reading more rental reviews to hone my review style.
Don't everyone invite me at once, it may be a couple of years before this happens. If need be I'll just fake an urgent tire rotation and ask for help and then not leave. Actually that may be my thing, wiper blades, a fresh wash and detail, it would depend on the "hosts" skills. A parasitic draw on the GRM community.
I envision driving an S197 Mustang, so if a fun track shows up I can sample it.

Well, brother, I'm just down the way from you, conveniently located not westward at all. Pick nice weather though because my "garage" currently has 1/4" of snow on it
In reply to akylekoz :
If you head north-easterly into New England, there's 3 tracks within 1.5 hours of my house, and 3 more if you're willing to drive 3.

this is my garage.
This is not my car.
The map may be gone- but there are a few of us in my immediate area, and I've definitely gone out on errands for other grmers before.
Not too many GRMers here outside of solo nationals time but always willing to help and share my cars and tools if needed in Omaha. The garage is pretty packed but camping in the spare bedroom is always an option.
Map looks like it still works from Angry's link but I've moved three times since joining this forum in 2018 and it's never been updated. I'm going to look into making an updated version this has resurfaced a few times in the last couple months.
When my Rampage Across America hit a snag I had multiple people offering to help, I will always be thankful that in a bind I had people offering to help and drive hours to do so
This place is awesome
