The name is silly, but the performance is anything but...
Specs (on a damp track):
1.4 seconds 0-60
7.97 @ governed 150 mph in the 1/4 (car is hitting the limiter for over 2 seconds during the run)
Claimed 0-190mph in 9 seconds.

Granted, it's a $2,000,000 toy, but the fact that it's hitting those numbers, limited, on a damp track is staggering.
As far as EV's go, we're basically at the iPhone2 level of development, I suspect ridiculous performance at reasonable prices is roughly a decade away.
One thing I learned recently about EVs is their massive superiority in traction control. It has something to do with how many times a thing can adjust a thing per second (see the Jason Camissa drag race video with the Genesis vs Tesla for specifics). The point is that they are much better at it than ICE vehicles.

That explains how a rwd vehicle can have such a staggering 0-60. I was wondering why this thing wasn't awd. Based on the times, it doesn't need to be
I'm curious... what (which?) quarter mile"world record" do they think they have set?

And with the motor at the wheels there's no drivetrain lag in the traction control.

The production car record - but of course it's not a production car yet...

That thing is ridiculous, but I don't think you'll ever see one IRL. They're gonna be super rare, but it's really cool to see what the future of single-seater trackday-specials could be. Imagine Tesla power in a car half the size and 2/3rds the weight. The 3's that I've seen at autocrosses and trackdays are just stupidly fast (for a few laps until the battery is dry).
The Lucid Sapphire though? They're claiming a sub-9 second 1/4 is possible (but has yet to be proven below a 9.1-ish). For a 5-seat family sedan that people will actually buy, it's got me really excited about the speeds that the future cars will be crashing at.
You won't ever see one at a track day either, unless the owner of said car allows you to be at his private track day. The amount of trash that car kicks up with it's Hoover downforce means no one will want to be on track at the same time as him.

Its run up the hill at Goodwood was crazy to watch, it was like the film was speeded up.

Completely unrelated, but TIL that the Taycan comes in wagon form. Someone at my gym shelled out for the turbo S wagon.
I just had to snoop, base price is $190,000, before options. That gets you a 2.7 second 0-60 wagon for 1/10 of the price of the McMurty, what a bargain!

Technically, there are 2 Taycan Wagons. The Cross Turismo is a slightly lifted soft roader with black plastic cladding, and comes in a couple of different trim levels including Turbo S:
The Sport Turismo is the regular height 'street' version, with body colored molding and only the "GTS" trim level (for now):

It's part of the reason I always bashed Apple products until I was forced to join the club (boss: here's your company phone). Now I ain't going back no way no how.
