Hard to hear but I don't think the solinode is clicking. Stick far from home at the moment.
Letting it cool to see if it'll start

The batteries on these are in the engine bay and notorious for being replaced with way undersized ones. Try a jump!
Battery is a duralast 35-dl. Should be the right one. Headed in to buy a pair of pliers and pull fuses.
Sticky Neutral safety switch is an issue on these. Try starting it in neutral if you haven't thought of that.
Agree with the NSS suggestion. Also, for future reference, a common group 24 battery fits perfectly in the OEM battery box.
While I wait for the tow truck.
Remote battery was weak which is why I stopped. Went ahead and replaced it
there is a click at the fuse box when starting. Tow driver heard it. Jump did not work
As I'm riding in the tow truck. Clicking in the fuse box. Wonder if it's a fuse or the starter solenoid.
I was supposed to go to Houston tonight in it. Hopefully I can go in the morning.

Man that is weird.
I'd still load test the battery and see what's going on there.
Check that the secondary battery cable is secured to the main lug.
Then start chasing the starter circuit. The clicking in the fuse box is likely the relay. Might just be a dead starter.
I unplugged the solenoid cable and plugged it back on and it started. Not sure what that means.
it really wasn't loose or anything. I'm baffled.
Sanded the terminal a bit and put electric grease on it and am trying to zip tie it to keep it on.

That's freaking weird.
What volts and amps off and running? Any load while off?
Check the cable end at the starter, too.
Very weird. I don't have a voltmeter that works anymore, but if I did, where would I check voltage?
I'm about to drive it around for a while to get it to operating and bring it home and turn it off and see if it'll start. I had been driving it all day running errands, so I don't think that the starter or solenoid are overheating or anything, but driving it tonight will see.
I also left the splash pan off figuring if/when we head out tomorrow, if it won't start again, I can reach up underneath and jiggle the cable and get it going again. Couldn't get a zip tie around it to keep it on.

Check voltage right on the battery terminals. Should have 12.7V off and 14.5V or so running.
I'm pretty confident your starter is E36 M3ting the bed. I chased other ghosts when the Sonoma's starter E36 M3 the bed because it was intermittent for a few weeks. Next time it happens, put a new starter on it. I'll send you $20 if that doesn't fix it.
When I swapped the starter on ours (before I realized the neutral switch was stuck, because I'm a dummy) I noticed that terminal had quite a bit of corrosion. If not the starter itself, I wonder if that could be your issue.

I think that may have been it. It was pretty corroded and loose. I drove it around a bunch last night, and kept coming back to the house and turning it off and back on at various time frames. Sometimes just a minute or so and all the way up to an hour. Started every time. I did find a volt meter and the battery was 12.7 when off and 13.8 when idling.
We're going to hit the road in a bit for our trip to Houston. I filled it up last night to see if I can make it on one tank without having to turn it off (just in case), since we have friends there with a garage and lifts.
Apologies to any others that were annoyed by a HELP post on the main site. I was a bit panicked yesterday as I had too many fires (personal and work) I was trying to put out and knew I'd get responses here almost immediately.
An extra thanks to Javelin, BlueInGreen and Sonic for jumping in to help.
I still need to get a build thread started for this thing.

Don't apologize for the HELP. You were in real need and you got real support. It's one of the great things about here.
I was watching but didn't write anything because great suggestions were already given.
BlueGreen Jon's Mazda5 was my wife's 2010 that we bought new. He bought it when we up sized to a Grand Caravan. My wife does like the GC but she still misses the Mazda5 and mentions it all the time. Most of that is times that she's driving the oversized GC with just her in the car. She loved the Mazda5 size for mundane daily duties.

Bingo!
I really appreciate the assistance.
I got a compliment on the car yesterday. My 20 year old car nut son told me it's a nice looking car when I pulled up to his work yesterday. This after spending the day before making soccer mom car comments about it.
he and I are headed to Houston so he can be a hired gun in a karting enduro tomorrow. So we'll have plenty of time in it swapping out driving duties.
Other than the weird starting issue and the PO who apparently rewired the headlights to run led's, I'm really digging it so far.

We are in Houston. Drove straight to the kart shop and turned it off, counted to 10 and it started right back up.
Looks like we're good
thanks, again, for the help!
