So my gf found a car that shouldn't exist, a Mazda 5 Grand Touring with a manual transmission. Moonroof, leather, auto climate control, and three pedals. It has 60k miles. It's at a dealer nearish to me. This morning the sales sick willy told me that it "failed inspection" and was "going to wholesale".
Any help?

Craigslist
I need this car. I don't care what wrong with it. I don't care about the price. It's not supposed to exist at all and it's my unicorn, color and all.

Tell them you'll give them 3k cash because it's worthless wholesale
Wow that is a unicorn. I want it too.
I assume you told them you’ll pay whatever they want for it?
if they sell it wholesale find someone with a dealer license who can get it for you

Talk to the fleet guy. He'll be in charge of auction stuff.

I thought of that, but there's no guarantee that the dealer friend would win it at the auction. I'm going to be like 20 minutes from it tonight, is rather just buy it.
In Maryland, a dealer cannot sell a vehicle without it being state inspected. Is Washington the same?
They probably decided it wasn't within budget to fix it, and still make a profit. You'd need to tell them you'll pay for whatever repairs it needs to be sellable, plus the cost of the vehicle if that's the case. Talk to the used car sales manager and explain your situation. He may be a car guy and want to help, or he may see dollar signs and want to help, lol.

Ok, I'll be the voice of reason... :P
How many cars do you have now?
Maybe trade in a Bronco to sweeten the deal..

No, no state inspection. The one and only sales guy that I could even get to talk to me on the phone was a slime ball.

Sold the Bronco and the Cobra!
I'd pass. Seems way over priced for an 2007

Finally got a hold of someone at that dealership with a brain. They sold out at a wholesale auction already, it's physically not there.
Any help on finding VIN JM1CR293570143287 when it comes back up would be appreciated.
Wonder if someone else on the inside wants it.

That's my actual thought. Super clean Mazda 5 with 60k miles.

just do a Google search for the Vin JM1CR293570143287 , under Tools change the time to last 24 hours or 7 days ,
There was a way to have Google send you all new posts with a certain Vin ,
Good Luck
Grand Touring never came in manual. That is a Touring with a few option packages, there are not many out there though.

That was my hunch as well, and the conclusion of the VIN decoder I used. Didn't know much about this vehicle, but I was surprised that a 2007 Mazda "unicorn" (a la 350cid TPI Camaro with a 5-speed) would exist and wanted to look into that.
It definitely is a "unicorn" in the broader sense of, "good luck finding one of those with an actual stickshift."

Damn, that was an amazing spec. I love that color, loved the interior color, mileage and condition good... jeez. But i still wouldn't have bought it for $8k!
Maybe it was a flood car and he didn't want to be caught selling it ....anonymously to other dealers might be safer.

Grand Touring is the only way to get leather, period. Hence the unicorn part.

The available info says you're wrong.
KBB trade in value estimator says GT only ever came in an automatic.
Edmunds says the GT was auto only.

There's a high likelyhood with that pale blue color that the leather is aftermarket and they added the door inserts as well. Mazda has done some interesting exterior colors. But that blue interior leather doesn't look like anything they'd have done in the past 20 years.
In reply to Javelin :
The other way to get vinyl....errr...leather would be to buy a wrecked auction GT and pull the seats. That's crackpipe $ for a first gen.

Grand Touring came standard with heated seats. This is a Touring with leather added. One of the easiest ways to tell it’s aftermarket leather is the door panels were done too. Even in the GT they are cloth.

Just call Mazda with the VIN. They’ll tell you. Maybe it’s a Canadian car, they have different option specs and are more likely to be stick shifts and wagons.

Edmunds also says that the 08 Touring is auto only, yet there at least seven manual ones out in the wild. There's an original owner one in the Mazda5 group with window sticker.
If I'm not mistaken, the only way to get automatic climate control in an 06/07 was on the GT trim.
