My son and I have mostly finished our Cyclekart build just before Xmas. It's functional (except that I need to find someone to straighten two wheels) and the main body is finished. But we both feel that it's a little plain right now. I added the front grill number to try and spice things up. We feel that it would need some more detailing. Maybe take the time to make a Brooklands screen? Make some number roundels? If so, anyone has a good place that could make us some good stickers? Are we just too used to it and it doesn't need anything else? What do you guys think?

See below and example of the inspiration and our Cyclekart:

Where 26 has a "top number", I would give yours a "side number" located between the two leather belts and then for a top number I would have one 7 centered on the top of the boat tail.  The font you have for the grill 7 is clear.  I would stay with that same font without meatball.  Try to make the side and the rear size the same.

The grill can be read as you approach.  The belt area can be read from the side.  The boat tail number can be read as you depart.

I think less is more here.  Don't over do it.

PS: SO COOL, love the color too.

Maybe a white 7 just ahead of the cockpit opening and/or on the rear...flanks? Roundels were very uncommon in the '30s but not unheard of.

That's awesome. Cars back then didn't have a ton of graphics but, yeah, the right ones can make the difference.

Some ideas:

Roundels always work.

Driver name/mechanic name. (Hand-lettered, of course.)

Car's name–like Bloody Mary

I generally agree with the less is more, but a body line that went from the base and swooped up to meet at the boat tail might look nice.

I love the fact that the Bloody Mary only has one fender near the driver.

Because why would you need more than that?

Thanks everyone for the nice comments and help.

I think we'll start with the number on top of the boattail and the driver name on the side of the cockpit.

Then we'll see if we add the number on the side.

I'll post pictures when it's done.

See if you can find a couple of BRDC decals to stick on both sides. They're kind of "vintagey" looking.

In reply to Apexcarver :

Oh, wouldn't an old Castrol sticker look good on the sides?

Love your cyclecart!

I wanted to build one with my daughter, but it never came to fruition.

I wouldn't put anything more than numbers on it, and I'd have to think about doing even that.  The cars didn't have graphics back then or sponsors, just solid colors.  If they were raced internationally the color corresponded to the country.

I don't think you need graphics. You need brass and/or mechanical detailing.

Windscreen, hood latches, rear view mirrors, a large handbrake handle, door handles, suspension bits, rivets, a hand crank on the front like a crank engine, etc.

It's subtle little stuff. Not bold stuff like graphics.

Car looks great!

You need something of a badge at the top of the radiator shroud.

Aside from that, for the era, one good sticker per side is what I would stick with in addition to a rondel for numbers. I did the Exxon Pegasus on my Bugeye, but much more in the way of stickers would subtract from the look.

Although here's a fun recent addition from isaydingdong
