I know the brain trust here can help me. I need a make and model  and year range for this moron that decided to run over my yard sign.

It's not right, running over people's property.

But I gaze at these yard signs with amusement. I mean, what really is the purpose? A yard sign is going to get someone to change their vote? It's pretty much the same as putting a sports team flag out there. "Go Packers!"  Okay, so you like the Packers. Good for you. No one cares.

My neighbors and passers-by have no idea who I'm voting for because it's none of their business. And that way, I don't get caught up in the endless vandalism. But, free speech, so you do you, and I'll support that aspect despite my belief yard signs are silly and pointless.

My dad argues politics on the Internet. Gets all hot under the collar.

Asked him how often he's changed his mind based on those "debates"? How often you reckon the other guy changes his mind based on your impassioned shouts into the void?

Suspect the roadside signs and the internet yelling both approach zero when asking about their "effectiveness" at influencing votes. But, whatever blows your skirt up. I fill my yard space with project cars and boats. No room for signs. cheeky

Don't forget the Geo Prizm variant of that car. Isn't there a third one as well?

I don't understand this kind of vandalism. So you don't agree with the sign, this isn't painting your side in a positve light.

Logic, in political rhetoric/action?!

Come on, now. That's not acceptable.

Came here to say that. The Prizm part, at least. I'm all for vandalism though. /joke

As I told my Kids, as long as I got up and went to work life was good under

Bush, Clinton, Bush, Obama, Trump, etc. I don't see "sides" and really don't care what anyone's politics are.

Can we have interesting conversation and enjoy a beer together? If Yes, then let's do that.

How many of those signs on both sides will end up in a landfill after the election?

In college we'd use them for target holders at the range and THEN they went to landfill. So, at least they got two lives.

With a bit of paint, they become great For Sale signs for when I decide to part with a car.

I've collected them in the past and used them for C.A.D (corrugated aided design). Similar to C.A.D (cardboard aided design) but with an abundant and and free resource after election silly season.

I always wanted to use them as the core of a cheap-ass fiberglass splitter. Never got around to it.

Also wondered what it would be like to stick a paint-filled water balloon between a couple of them and place them by the roadside.

They are pretty good for spray out boards or mixing boards.  Cardboard is a bit too absorbent for either.

I honestly don't understand the purpose of them myself.  If your decision is influenced by a sign, you really shouldn't be voting.

I do want to make a sign for my yard that says:

"Vote who I vote for because I know better than you"

(but of course I never would because like the regular one, it will likely piss off a neighbor, and what is the point of that?)

I'm that way about the general election debates, too:

YOU MEAN YOU DONT ALREADY KNOW AND/OR HAVE YOUR OWN OPINION ABOUT THE ISSUES THEY STAND FOR!?! It's not like we're sitting in on an open-minded discussion, weighing the merits of different approaches or anything-- it's typically a E36 M3-flinging contest, and I get to watch grown adults make infuriating "I'm so over this" sneering faces like a jr high girl seeing Vanessa wearing her same socks!

But, for those who haven't already made up their minds, maybe the signs help since supposedly name recognition counts for something?? Or perhaps it's the social creature part of us who doesn't like to go against the majority opinion??

IN ANY EVENT, yes, I will definitely go around collecting signs now, lots of great use cases!!

EDIT:

Wait a dang minute. Don't you have to pay the candidate to buy the sign? If so, this is nothing more than the politicians making income on the sociological phenomenon of people wanting to be known. No diff than paying money for a Coca Cola shirt orrr a GRM sticker: "I want to be known, and what I like is part of me"

I usually end up arguing about IPA vs Stout more often than I argue politics.

The purpose of these signs is to create name recognition. It's probably more effective down-ballot than it is for the headliners. You get to district 73 rotating comptroller general de-doink of all of thisnthat and think, I don't know what that means, but deep in your brain something is saying I've heard of Billy buttwipe somewhere...

I don't understand the appeal of IPA's at all.  They just taste bitter to me (although, interestingly enough, I find bitters rather interesting...).

But hey, if someone like them, what the hell do I care.  Doesn't affect me!  (as long as stouts are still available that is)

That said, I am certainly not putting a STOUT sign in my yard.
