I need to replace a few front end pieces on my GMC Savana 1500. Being as I was an import tech in my wrenching days, my tool selection for front end work is limited to a small pickle fork and a small pitman arm puller that worked on the occasional domestic used vehicle like an S10.
The stuff I have isnt going to cut it on the van. The pitman arm puller wont even fit over the pitman arm. Sounds like a great excuse to buy some more tools!
I did a bit of research and it looks like there are kits like this one out there. The price seems fair but is it inclusive enough?
What would GRM buy?
That OTC kit from Amazon for $100 is the same one I bought when facing this tool need. They're of Taiwanese manufacture and very nice. I also bought their bearing splitter set and have been thoroughly pleased with both. For bearings I picked up a FWD/light truck bearing arbor set from Harbor Fright. It's noting more than tubes and caps made of cheap steel w/ shoulders turned on to them, so it's hard to make it too badly not to work OK.
HF Bearing Press tools.
a Pitman arm puller and a good hammer is all you need..

In reply to motomoron:
I have that HF bearing kit. I had to upgrade the big bolt after a few uses but it has been a good set. Ive had pretty good luck with the OTC tools I already have so its good to hear this kit is decent too.

Thats worked so far but there are apparently different sized pitman arm pullers because the one I have doesn't fit.
