2010 CTS-V Automatic
166k miles (I drive 80 miles a day.)
Trans has been slipping in 3rd gear only for a while now, and it *feels* like at least one strut needs to be replaced.
I've really never *loved* the car. It's nice. It's fast. It looks bitchin and eats up highway miles. But it's an automatic.
But I've been lusting after a FoRS since they came out and 18's are starting to pop up used in my price range.
I've thrown almost $5k at the car this year, including another $1600 today and if I replace the trans and strut(?) I'm almost $10k into repairs in 6 months for a car I still won't love.
When I tried to trade it on a FoRS in '18 I think one dealer offered $15k and another topped out at $12k and I really wish I would've just pulled the trigger.
What say you, hive?
Is $15k "About right? Ambitious? Too low?"
Pretty sure I'm gonna just have to bite the bullet and try to sell privately as I doubt a trade at this point would even bring 5 figures.
$15k after you fix the transmission? I think that is more than fair.
If the interior and exterior are in good shape I would ask $18k.
It sucks going to the dealer but have a number in your head that would make this work and give it a shot. Sometimes its worth it to just move on.

I'd run a half budget CTS-V.
Ill go $1250 and a grilled cheese sandwich
I think that even with the trans problem, 15K will have it gone quickly.
I'd see what the dealers are offering on trades if you find a FoRS, since I'm betting the supply of non-rental cars in the used market is slim with everything going on.
You guys are pretty berkeleyin funny. It is not a 300k mile V1. Yes, the car is in good shape in and out. Fixing the trans would defeat the purpose of selling.
My former employer really wanted one because the engine was a pulley and tune away from frighteningly good quarter mile times. A good V was over $20k though, and he couldn't quite justify it.

berkeley you $950 now
Deal! Finance the balance in daily hand-whammies for 120 months?
In reply to Pete. (l33t FS) :
A *good* V2 is still over $30k. This one, not so much.

Maybe say berkeley it and put that manual in it you want?
I've never seen a V2 up here (PNW) or down in LA for less than like $25k, regardless of miles.
Yeah, how much would a manual swap run? I feel like that would cure what ails you. Otherwise, 15k is more than reasonable. I bet you could even do 18

Now that I think of it, he knew a guy and could buy at wholesale trade-in value.
$1600 and a truck full of mickies.
Shoot brah my V2 is at 173K with a bad HVAC diverter thingy (total dashboard removal), clutch soonish,
rear suspension bushings, gas tank leak, I'm real interested at what $$$ you feel is pull the trigger TIME

I was 19 in college working retail at a Kmart part-time and an older guy convinced me to join him for a liquid lunch.
We drove across the street to the liquor store and bought a 6-pack of Mickeys wide-mouths and drove back and finished three each. He said the WM helped them go down quicker. Back to work 30 minutes later.
It was a bad afternoon. Never drank it again.

A "FRIEND OF MINE" was 15 when he totalled his best buddy's car and had to wipe the Mickey's off the windshield and toss the empty quart bottles into the field before the cops showed up. That was a bad night for *MY FRIEND* who apparently has not gotten any smarter.
And yeah. There will be no "manual swap" exceeding the value of the car.
