Hey guys, I have a Honda question. My '97 CR-V appears to have a leak from the o-ring on the oil pump (#15 in the picture). From what I hear from others I have asked, there is a large paper-type gasket that seals the main portion of the pump. Problem is, I don't think you can get this gasket without buying a new pump, which I don't really want to do (they are at least $100). Any of you guys had to mess with this? Can you use silicone rtv on the pump? Should I replace the pump anyway since I'm in there (193k on motor)? Any advice would be appreciated!

Oh, and as a side note, does anyone in the Tidewater, VA area have a good used crank pulley for one of these motors? Mine is wobbling pretty bad at idle and I'm guessing the rubber portion of it is starting to come apart (I've seen this on a few different Nissans that I've worked on).

Oops, forgot to add the pic I referred to...

Try buying or looking up the front crank seal kit from Fel pro. I just got one for SWMBO's civic and it includes these o-rings as well as the front mail seal and some paper gaskets as well.

OK, cool. I did a timing belt service recently, so the crank seal is new, but I discovered this other leak at the o-ring. I will just see what I can get aftermarket.

I've had Honda oil pumps off before (but it was years ago) and I don't recall any sort of paper gasket. Honda in general isn't into paper gaskets, everything is either rubber or Hondabond (their brand of RTV, which is awesome enough that I use it on everything).

If I were you, I would get yourself a new o ring and a tube on Hondabond and see what happens. Worst case, you will then still need a new oil pump. It is a good time to also do your timing belt, while you are there.

While you have the oil pump off, I would also recommend porting out the outlet of the pump, as it really helps flow, especially at the 90 degree turn that it takes coming out of the pump gears.

In reply to Sonic:

Well I just did a timing belt service last month, after which is when I noticed this leak. I did the timing belt, tensioner, water pump, cam seals, crank seal, drive belts, oil pan gasket, etc. Now I have a leak at the oil pump and a wobbly harmonic balancer... stinkin' old Honda.

Man, I thought I would get more responses on this...no Honda junkies with any good tips? Or am I the only Honda owner with a leaking oil pump?
