Hi Guys,
I have a 1990 CRX Si that I am finally getting back on the road after an
engine transplant. I was running the stock rim/tire (185/60HR14) before the transplant, but since I have bigger brakes I need to update the rims/tires. Since this will be mostly a daily driver, I am leaning on the conservative side and thinking about a simple +1 upgrade to 15" rims and 195/50 tires. The problem I have is that it is hard to find 15" rims that have a width smaller than 7". 195/50 tires seem a little narrow for a 7" rim. Since the CRX does not have power steering I am worried about going larger than 195, but I realize that this may be necessary. So, is a 7" rim o.k. to use with 195/50 tires? If not, would the drivability suffer with 205/50 tires? I don't really want to go to a 16" rim since they are quite a bit heavier. The 15" rims I am looking at are around 14.5 lbs and the 16" version of that same rim are more than 3 lbs heavier. I really appreciate any help you can offer.
John
Not sure what you mean. Yes, I have looked at different rims. The 15" rims that I have seen are either 6.5" or 7" wide. There just aren't that many too chose from that are 6.5" wide on 15" diameter.
I run 195/50-15's on a 7" rim on my CRX. I also have a set of 205/50-15, but the 195's are the more appropriate diameter. I don't see anything wrong with running them on a 7" wheel, but you should also be able to find 6.5" wide wheels pretty easily. Or you could run factory wheels like from an Integra GS-R, which are either 6" or 6.5" wide.

Sill wish you had sold me that!

Very good work with the tape!
I have run both 195 and 205 on my 89 Civic with no major issues on both 6.5 and 7 inch wheels hate to beat the dead horse but neither of the set ups should be a problem.

FYI, we had a hailstorm yesterday that produced apocolyptic E36 M3 like that which destroyed your paint. Sorry you got sucked under my black cloud.

You can see pics of mine on 15x7's and 195's in my GRM garage. I'll try to post pics of it with 205's in the next day or two.

Not sure if it's a good thing or a bad thing I heard about this less than 24 hours after sorta meeting you. Those would look great on 1slowcrx's old crx that's in my driveway that's also black.

I run 195-50-15's on 6 1/2" rims on the Integra ( OEM was 195-55-15's )
the CRX has 225-45-13's on 13x8's on the track
and 195-50-15's on 7 1/2" rims for the street/a-x
