Hondata's Flashpro can be used on the later engines. The only manual ECU besides those in the 04+ TL's came with the '03 CL Type-S. You guys are vastly over thinking the whole ECU/Engine thing. The J-series cars are still Honda's, and it's nearly a plug and play affair with most of the different J-series harnesses and ECU's. I'd rather run an AEM than the factory ECU, anyway, the tunes from the factory are pretty crappy and a tune REALLY wakes this family of engines up.
I hate the headers. Look like cheap Ebay ones that have been modified to work. No thanks on those, I'd rather build my own. The rest of the kit looks pretty alright though. Really interested to see one of these in person. I'm about 99% sure I'll have my hands on one of these kits by next summer.

6spd has better spacing for track use as well. There's no downside to a 6spd setup other than cost.
Not on our track with torques. And there's always the shift quality. Around here, we all drive 5-speeds unless it's a T56. Even our MSM got a 5-speed conversion and was better for it.
You know what they say about opinions
Well true... i wouldn't bother moving to a 6spd on your track, either.
I will say that coming from a 6spd car to a 5spd car now, i'm a bit annoyed with some of the weird spacing. But i'm also OCD about that sort of thing.
Another useless anecdote on my end is that the MSM shifted better than any of the three 5spd Miatas we've owned. But, the best shifting Miata i've driven was a 99 5spd that we test drove before buying the MSM, so there's that.
Who's doing this ecotec swap? Is this something pieced together or a commercially available kit?
Ooof... i just went back and actually looked at the kit.
Noooooo thank you. That all looks pretty dreadful. I really like the photoshop on the Y-pipe.

haha didn't even notice that! Terrible! Looks like a bunch of ebay pics put together.

Keep in mind the ecotec swap also uses the stock trans and rear end so going with the boosted ecotec may well run into the same driveline lifespan issues.Their non boosted 2.4 made 201 whp which isn't too bad at all and well over what my 1.6 JRSC at 8lbs is making.
I don't know what they've done to that engine to get those numbers,I'll probably ask them for a cost estimate soon.

There are some links on page 6. The company doesn't have any real info about it other than a dyno and a few pics.
I would be curious to see what a kit would cost as well.

Man, some people are really bad at marketing.
Yeah the marketing/management of this and to a slightly lesser extent the Exocet has made me want to scream and cry and throttle someone.

Yeah, if you've got a 5-speed Miata and you want a driveline upgrade, you've basically got three choices. For $1500-2000 you can get a 6-speed and 3.6:1. For more than that (I don't exactly how much) you can get the V8Roadsters setup that FM uses with the LSx conversions, or for a LOT more than that you can do something totally custom. AFAICT, that's pretty much it.
Or $300 adapter plate to run TII transmission.

And fabrication to deal with the missing PPF, and I suspect a different clutch, and a junkyard 20+year old trans.

Sure. I didn't say i thought it was awesome, just that it's another option that wasn't listed.
The photoshopped Y-pipe and iffy-looking subframe photo (and sparse webpage) aside, the rest of it doesn't look too sketchy. Maybe I just want the J-series kit to happen too bad?

I know they're a very busy shop, and that's probably why the lack of updates. The kit isn't cheap, but it's good value.

So it is a kit? I can't tell from their facebook page/website if its just custom fab they've done, if a kit they intend to sell.
Not cheap, but well done is fantastic in my book. Ecotecs are good motors, super common, weigh less than the BP, and can make a whole range of power.

I is confused...how many kits are we talking about in this thread?
I also detect a certain amount of loyalty to the entrenched conversion options. Certainly a challenge to any newcomers who want a slice of the market.
In reply to NOHOME:
Two kits Pete. A Canadian sourced Ecotec kit and the Honda V6 kit.
I for one want to see a legit, finished version of the V6 swap kit. V6 noise >>> I4 noise.

That said, the MGB crowd struggles with the V8 versus V6 question all the time.
It is Ginger versus Maryanne conundrum; we all know Maryanne is the sensible choice...however....
but you KNOW Maryanne is good for roll in hay

There was one at the Mitty.
I'm going LFX
There, I said it.
Whoo. Feels good to get that out
Carry on

I was under the impression that was the prototype. By "finished kit" I mean good res pics of the ready-to-ship package. Clear pic of the subframe and a not-MS-Paint Y-pipe. The headers honestly don't look that bad to me, not sure what was up with the Y-pipe picture. I'm assuming the wonky pic of the subframe was just from photo-cutting out the image from its background. The guy would do better with closer pictures of fit from the top of the engine bay, and especially from underneath with the car on a lift or some such. Presentation is everything.
Oh, and while I'm being demanding, an audio clip!
