When I did it, it wasn't completely across the country, but it was a large loop of about 3500 miles with 6 or 9 different stops. It was awful.
Not sure if it has changed.

Edit: The pick below isn't the engine in the Firebird, it's a neat trick to put faux valve covers on a LS platform to hide the coils.

That black Mercury Cyclone Spoiler II is fantastic and the owner is a really nice guy. He is at the Woodward Dream Cruise pretty regularly and we were both at a small local show a friend puts on last year. We had a nice chat and I told him about all the places I'd seen his car previously.

I drove down to meet the event in Monroe, MI today. Wandered the parking lot for 2 hours and still only saw less than half of the participants. I'll post pics tonight.
We stopped to the fifth and final day of Power Tour in Norwalk, OH. These events are sensory overload. Each car would be a cool thing at your local church car show but in this grouping you start to overlook another Gen2 Firebird. Sort of like Vegas where you say an older casino is crap due to the surrounding, competing hotel. But, compared to anything back in your small home town, its still an amazing building.
Buick Roadmasters are very popular at the event, however, they are good for the whole "family vibe" of the event.
With that overload, you could take pictures all day. I only took some pictures of weird stuff that spoke to me as well as some GRM memes.
This first picture is a pretty good capture of Power Tour's "standard fare"
