My friend at work is a car guy -- and found an XF with the supercharged V6 that has really attracted his interest.  He is prepared to deal with the reality of owning a Jaguar, but neither of us really has a clue what that "reality" really looks like.

Does anyone have any insight?

No personal insight, but by coincidence I just watched the video below wherein one of those engines gets torn down. It's a very weird setup.

My wife's 2018 Velar was the SUV blob version of the XF with that same engine.

I didn't watch the video, but I'm guessing it overheated because the crossover coolant pipe burst?  JLR decided to run all the coolant between the block and the supercharger, what's the best material for that high heat environment? Brittle Plastic!  How can we make it fail faster? Gluing it together from two different pieces!  Ours failed at ~45k miles.  The good news is the dealership's real quick and fixing them and have all the parts on hand since they all fail.

Other than that, and about $3k worth of software I purchased for it over the past couple years, I really enjoyed driving it.  It was beautifully designed in and out.  The engine had plenty of power, and it felt like a smaller car on twisty roads.

I didn't have much luck with the indy repair shops around here, and ended up at the dealership for most repairs and service.  Sitting there sifting through issues of Cigar Aficionado Magazine, I realized that Jaguar Land Rover really has no incentive to make a vehicle last longer than a couple years.  Most folks that buy/lease them new are on to the next one pretty quick, and the used market price was irrelevant.

So go into a used one eyes open on depreciation and repair costs, and bring a nice extended warranty!
