they turn out to be so noisy? I mean, I expect a track capable pad to be somewhat noisier, but is it only me? Do other people manage to install performance oriented pads and not get the noise?
These are Performance Friction Z compounds. The Hawk HP+ I installed on my Miata are also pretty noisy. Am I missing something obvious?

Properly lubed calipers? Anti-squeal coating on the back of the pads? Properly bedded?
Remove bedded pad material from the discs?

Maybe I didn't use enough of that anti-squeal on the back of the pads. They should be properly bedded and the discs good and clean . . .
odd. I had the hawk HPS pads on the 318ti.. no anti-squeal.. never had a squeak. On the Tiburon, I had the green stuff.. again, no anti-squeal, not a squeak
In reply to ZOO: Did you bed them?

I have Hawks on the S197 and they squeal , same pad on my truck - no squeal. The padgids on the 964 sound like a dump truck its so bad. I race the cars 5% of the time and tired of the squeal
yes i have hawks on my chev truck and cross drilled rotors...they were on sale!
ZOO, Cam has had 4 sets of pads on his 964 of various compound and company, Brendan has tried everything as have the rest of the CDN tire group to make it not squeal, at one point they were talking fish oil. May be one of those "deal with it" situations.
When ever I change pads, I clean the rotor.
I ran HP+ pads, even on the road and never got a squeak.

Do the pads you use have a chamfer on the edges?
I have a set of Hawk LTS pads and cross drilled and slotted PowerSlot rotors on the wife's Avalanche on the front and it's squeal free since I installed them. If they were squealing, I surely wouldn't have any ears left on my head. Biggest thing for noise is contamination. I always clean rotors twice with brake clean, although the BEST way is to simply wash them with soap and water, blow dry, and install. I also give the pads a quick clean with brake clean too. Never know what is on the surface of them.
Hawk HPS on my S197 very seldom make any noise. Factory rotors though.
I had a weird issue on my bike where one of the front caliper pistons was sticky leading to uneven force application to the pads. Might be a good idea to pull the pads and really clean the brake caliper piston then lube the piston with sil-glyde and make sure if you have two piston calipers that both pistons come up at at the same rate. As the brakes wear the piston gets exposed to the elements and will get crusty. When you push the piston back into the caliper to fit new pads the crustyness will catch the rubber seal and prevent smooth operation. That's all I got.
