Yesterday's RallyCross was wet and muddy. We always joke about bringing home 200lbs of mud from these events, but being the dork that I am, I wondered what the real number was. Conveniently, there's a feed store with a scale on my route to/from this particular course. I weighed my setup on the way out and again on the way back, factored in the weight of the fuel used, and came up with a real number. (Assuming, of course, that the feed scale and my van's MPG calculation are accurate.)

Any guesses?

One event I got on I-75 not long after driving and the whole front end was shaking like crazy.  I quickly decided I had new wheel weights that would fly off eventually, and I was right.

Pic below for reference. This was the first run after a course change and I was the first car on grid. It looks like I'm bushwhacking a full car width off-course, but that was the new line... mostly.

I know not how much mud came back from the rallycross with you, but I do know that you'll never remove all of it from the car.  I find mud and rocks in the strangest places.

This is 100% accurate. It would take a rotisserie restoration to have a shot and getting it all. I just try to get down to base level.

The answer: 76 pounds of mud. The weigh in was about an hour into the ride home and probably 3 hours since my last run. I'm curious how much water weight I lost in that time.

Next time I'm gonna have to bring scales to the event. :)

All of it?

We tried to do a rallycross in the rain once. It was too muddy to get the cones out to build a course.

I'd be willing to bet that there is still some mud in the car from that day.

Judging by my trailer deck, I think I kept most of it!

At the muddy event that got Detroit region kicked out of a certain venue (F-something? R-something?  Not Adrian), I had so much lopsided mud in my wheels (14"!) that the windows in my Quantum were rolling themselves down.  It felt like the tires were hopping off the ground at anything over 50. I stopped on the side of the road and used a found coat hanger to poke the mud away as much as I could, which made 60 at least bearable but the CD player hated it.

When I took the car apart, the top of the transmission was caked with ancient mud, which was probably no small percentage of horse poop because it was a horse track.
