Chevrolet continues to tease details about the performance of its new Chevrolet Corvette ZR1. The latest stat to come out is that the ZR1, with the ZTK Performance Package, can do a zero-to-60 time of 2.3 seconds. Without the package, just a 2.5.

To put that 2.3 mark in perspective, it matches car…

This powertrain iteration was so rowdy that it delayed the C8 launch by months.  Despite a masterfully designed chassis it put down so much power in the test mules that it bent the chassis forcing a last minute redesign that delayed launch.  In this day of fantastic CAE/FAE design tools this was kind of an amazing feat.  This thing is a beast.

Simply an amazing accomplishment in an excellent handling attainable car.  GM gets kudos for pulling this off.

Who needs or wants a Bugatti anyway? j/k

I really want to see GM's official time at the 'Ring. I know there are mixed feelings on how big of a deal that is, but like it or not, its a measurement and with the news about the Mustang GTD, another American car under 7min would be cool.

Agreed.

According to the internet, a C8 Z06 with the Z07 package clocked a fastest lap of 7:10.51.

If that's really the case, I'd be surprised if the ZR1 doesn't run a sub-7-minute lap.

One to put under a tarp in the corner of the garage, one to play with!

I continue to believe the base C8 with Z51 is the biggest performance car bargain available in the world.  What a home run for GM and the Z06/ZR1 only make it better.

Agreed, especially now that they're actually selling for MSRP or below

It's so fast it can outrun wags that are gearing up to complain about the interior quality.

Wow.  Might even be a close match for some of the "Lobos" or "Mexican GTRs" running around Texas.  Nah.  Unless there was a curve involved it'd still get roasted.

It would be interesting to test some of the older cars on modern rubber.  Jensen built a car called the FFF 100. It was powered by a Chrysler Hemi engine and it had 4 wheel drive and Maxaret anti-lock braking (which at that time I think had only been used on aircraft). On the tires available in 1972 it would do 0-100 and back to 0 in 12 seconds and that record stood until 2004.  And BTW, that record was set in the rain.  It only had 600 bhp,  a bit over 1/2 what the Corvette has today.
