Who knew that all it took to make a Mercedes-Benz S600 sound like an F1 car was a custom-made $12,000 exhaust only available in Japan?
Worth the price?

Didn't play sound, but don't 180-degree headers accomplish the task? Or, is this some Japanese craziness where they have a sound system under the car?
I'd like to do this - I have an '01 CL600.
I have a rotary draw bender that I've build cages with, and can get a mandrel attachment to bend thin-wall tubing. I did install motorized exhaust dumps under the front seats to start. https://youtu.be/wHnkCmhecwA

I must've linked this a hundred times already. https://www.bosozokustyle.com/2009/10/13/how-to-create-your-own-zokusha-muffler/
They've been doing this for years. Click link, watch the video, enjoy learning what a few helmholtz chambers do.
There is a u tube video out there of a 600 screaming up and down a street with an "f1" exhaust on it. Sounds cool but I am sure it would get old rather fast.
My cls has a very nice sound. Cut outs would be fun but with the twin turbos even with out mufflers it is not all that much louder than with the mufflers. I think the mufflers are tuned to take a lot of the high pitched sound out but does not kill a lot of the volume.
A lot of the "my v12 Merc sounds like an f1 car" videos are clearly overdubs.
I'm not saying this one is but beware.

Thank you for the heads up. Sometimes I have to remind myself that this is the internet, after all.
At any rate, I'll use that as an excuse to get a V12 Mercedes of my own.
Great engine in a boring car. A friend of mine is well on the way to swap in a m120 6.0 v12 in a well built de Tomaso pantera replica coupled to a boxster S manual gearbox. That will be an epic ride when its finished :)
That video guy talks way too much. Anyway, $12,000 vanity upgrade, okay, and no faster to boot, perfect. Different strokes.

My v12TT s600 with muffler delete, but retaining factory catalytic converters, was MUCH louder than my v12TT cl600 with stock exhaust. It surprised me because I always thought the same as you, but deleting the mufflers really let that v12 sing even with the cats and turbos.

I have wondered about my car in that at idle or cruising it just has a little exhaust sound but get on it and it has that classic MB V8 sound that is very noticeable. I have not poked up around my mufflers but I was wondering if my car has a bypass valve in them or something.
I must admit that the coolest thing is when I am driving it in manual mode and you get the over run crackle. Probibly not the best thing for the cats but it sounds cool.
