I've forgotten. is this one? I've dreamed of having a caprice and going out west, then cramming it into small parking spots here in the city.

says on carfax i ran -

1995 CHEVROLET CAPRICE CLASSIC VIN: 1G1BL52W1SR112778 SEDAN 4 DR 4.3L V8 SFI OHV 16V REAR WHEEL DRIVE

It is poessible, the 4.3V8's were made as 9C1's as detective and city cars but the 5.7 was much more common. That one listed is not though. That's Grandpa's cruiser.

Weird, I didn't even know the 4.3V8 existed. They get better gas mileage that the bigger ones? I'm down to cruise.

Yeah, close to 30 on the highway IIRC. Open diff, no rear sway bar. The bores are tiny so there's not a lot you can do to one to make power other than removing it and putting in the 5.7.

The good news is that where an L99 4.3L "baby LT-1" is, a 5.7L LT-1 bolts right in. And that's about it. There was someone running a Super Stuck L99 car that ran 12s but it wouldn't be realistic or practical to replicate that and it certainly wouldn't be streetable. In theory, you could put a 4.3L L99's 3.00" stroke crank and rods in a LT-1 block and get a 302 if you wanted to but there's no point because the L99's cast crank and spindly rods wouldn't hold up at higher RPM, which is the whole reason to build a destroker

cruiser would be fine with me, especially since I'm considering doing a ton of driving for vacatoins. (Driving to florida from nc in July)

Non-9C1's make fantastic long distance cruisers. It's like sitting on your sofa at 75mph. The tall rear end makes the engine sit just above idle, it's roomy, quiet and gobbles down the miles.

Nice.. as it costs me $300 or so to rent a car to get to florida. few trips and that pays for the caprice. AC reliable?

Eh.... maybe? the older cars used the old crappy compressors. I think the newer cars had the newer style compressors and R134 so they might be better.

I wonder if my BMX will fit in the trunk with the back seats folded down, probably?

there is no pass through, the seats don't fold. You could likely ride your BMX around inside the trunk

Seriously though, Dad's 91 would hold the full size spare (235/70-15), a Tuba in case, 2 trombones, and two mellophones in the trunk. The 3 flutes rode up front with the 8 passengers + driver. With front bucket seats. and a removable console.

I'm moving out to California in about a year too, this would be an awesome thing to move with. I'm gonna check out that one posted and try to offer a bit under asking price.

As I recall you open the hood, all 9C1s have green silicone radiator hoses.

That was true when they were newer, but the newest 9C1 is now 20 years old. Going off of that is hard to do now.

LT1s all had dual exhausts. L99s did not. If the deck lid is original, the truck sticker with the options codes will read 9C1 somewhere in the blocks of 3 numbers/letters.

Both of my 9C1s had low gear lock out on the transmission.

Aside from all the little clues the best way to tell is to get the trunk lid open and stuck on the bottom of the trunk lid there will be sticker that lists all the option codes on it, look for 9C1.

In reply to Coldsnap:

I could fit my mountain bike through the back doors without removing either wheel, just had to flip the bottom of the seat to vertical. You could fit a few BMX bikes. My 93 9c1 still had the tbi 350 but was fun to do burn out whenever.

my TBI 350 equipped 92 9C1 would get 28mpg at 80mph with the AC cranked, and that thing had 3.42 gears and sat as high as a 4X4 pickup.

my LT1 equipped 94 9C1 never saw the high side of 20mpg, and it had 3.08 gears and sat about 2" lower than the 92 due to what i think were Impala SS springs that the CHP installed when it was one of their pursuit cars..

i have no experience with the L99 powered models, but know how to tell them apart from the LT1 cars: 7.5" differential, rear drum brakes, 2" single exhaust compared to the 8.5 diff with discs and 2" dual exhaust on the LT1 cars.
