While attempting to remove the seats from my 914, I didn't realize that the material was caught on the edge of the seat track. No wonder they were especially hard to remove.

The tear starts at the bottom and continues up the back so almost invisible when the seat is in the car. Is there a diy kit that would work? I want to prevent further damage.

Keep in mind these are aftermarket Scheel seats and this is a driver / former track car not a concourse car.

I've used kits like this with reasonably good success in the past.  With that tear I'd probably want to stitch it together then apply the vinyl repair over the stiching to cover it.

What JThw8 said. Another option instead of stitching would be to add some backing fabric behind, and adhere it to the backside of the vinyl with a fabric glue (one that will remain flexible when cured) and then use the vinyl/leather repair kit on top as a second step to the repair.

I'd love to see a photo of the seat if you don't mind. Do you know if it is one of the 914-specific models? I work at scheel-mann USA, so I am particularly interested in the vintage stuff we used to offer.

The car's original owner installed the seats so I don't know too much about them. It appears that the 914 tracks mount directly to the seat bottom without modification. I had seats modified to accept harnesses.

I have had good luck with these on vinyl motorcycle and lawn mower seats:

It is noticeable since it is a patch that goes on the outside but if the tear isn't visible with the seat installed it would be fine.

Very cool; thanks! Those look like Model 114, a special seat made for the 914, and quite collectible these days.
