In SE Mi, high winds brought down powerline in neighbors back yard. Nice big flash bang fizz pop and fire followed by police etc for half the night. No biggie we often loose power.

Ya'll be nice to that shark. Can you imagine how confused he/she is? Nothing looks right and the water even tastes funny. He's probably pretty hungry too cause cats don't like to swim.

That's the case with every hurricane, ever, anywhere. Most of them amount to nothing. The ones that do, however, really mess stuff up. Fortunately, the mess-makers are few and far between. Unfortunately, many people new to hurricane-prone places have been through a few of the minor, irrelevant ones, and think they are all that way.....that makes them believe that all the preparation and warnings are "chicken little"
The warnings are NOT chicken little. The people who are taking it seriously every time are doing so because they have memory - whether personal or institutional - of times when the storms did mess things up.
We had three hurricanes cross through our county in 2004 within a span of two months....two were stronger than we normally have in the middle of the state. There were farmer's fields near my house that were flooded for six months. Now those fields are fully of little yuppie McMansions. I'm pretty sure that the realtors did not tell the new-to-FL buyers what the area looked like after the storms.
The next time something similar happens - and that may be 20-70 years - those houses will be flooded.

This. Power didn't even flicker here, lots of leaves and small branches on the ground.
Those that actually got it - stay safe!
Came out pretty good in central VA. Fairly good amount of rain, some wind, power was off for a grand total of about 5 seconds 3 days before Sandy hit, lots of leaves and pine needles on the roads, but other than that, nothing of consequence.
