So my buddy and I have decided to build a smart for the 2016 Challenge. There are a couple available through Copart but in Missouri you need a dealer's license to bid. Therefore, I thought I might ask the group if they know of a Smart that is cheap. Salvage titles and dead motors and transmissions are A-ok. We would just prefer something with a decent interior and exterior. We are located in Central MO but would be willing to travel for the right deal. Sadly, CA seems to have a ton but that is a little far (unless there is a running one for a grand). Thanks!
There's one stripped to the frame behind the body shop in West Point, Indiana. I drove by a month ago & it caught my eye, I know nothing else unfortunately.
I've got the Suzuki Hayabusa engine you need for it...
I like where you two are heading but I really doubt that we can swing even one Busa engine on a challenge budget. Motomoron - if you are wanting to give Challenge type pricing on that motor, we will definitely take it off your hands.

We really need one that has body panels still attached. However, I did find a complete panel "kit" on Ebay for $400 plus shipping. Seems reasonable.
Also, it looks like I might be in Indi at the end of July. Mind doing a little scouting on that stripped smart?
Interesting concept. A CHEAP Smart Car. I thought by definition they were all cheap. LOL
Does it need to be street legal? I know of a canadian one that can't be US registered. In MI.
We would really prefer one with a title but if it is cheap enough maybe worth a shot.

I don't know when I might get back that direction, but the name is Martin's Body & Paint and address/phone are:
5008 IN-25 West Point, IN 47992
(765) 572-2437
I remember seeing one parked there a few years ago too, not sure if this might be the same one or a different one.

I emailed him. Waiting for reply.
