Great thoughts on flat engines. I'm not one to drive my street cars to extremes generally. Perhaps some spirited driving, but I've never bounced a street car off of the rev limiter- race cars, yes. But that's the joy of having race cars, it gives you an outlet. Still many things to consider with the m96 motors though.

Yet another reason to pick Boxster over 996. My 3.2 has 140K miles and around 100 racing events on it. It's bounced off the limiter. A lot.

You sure there is a rev limit? Many an M96 has been money shifted and the ECU tracks over revs pretty well having multiple ranges etc.
In reply to AnthonyGS (Forum Supporter) :
Valve float is a rev limit right?
Yeah, my overrev counter is probably impressive.
First things first: I'm biased. I have a 1999 911 C2. I love it. Nevermind the headlights. It's the 911 I wanted. FAR lower running costs and purchase price than a 993, but with a similar analog feel. I bought it right, but I'll probably never sell it.
That said, I think a 997 is a better value today. The 996 has already started appreciating and you can't justify the price delta to a similar 986 or even 987 Boxster. The 997 is just a better car in so many ways. Its looks will age well, it will appreciate, and it will be a much nicer car than a 996 in so many ways.
My story is similar to David's, though. My heart said 996. That's the reason a 996 was the car for me.

rennlist is a good place to start, plus 6speedonline.com. As much as I hate to say it, you need to join a bunch of the 996 Facebook groups and post there that you're looking for a car and cruise the 996 facebook FS groups.
Jupiter local here...currently tracking an e36 M3, working my way up the track day favorites ladder. Maybe a Cayman S or 911 will be next.
I instructed a guy in a Boxster S years back and it still strikes me as the most balanced, responsive car in near factory spec I've ever experienced.

Mehhhhh, it's been months since I've been on Facebook. That's depressing.

Hey Matt! Great to meet you. One of my buddies just got a cayman gt4- crazy looking car.
Visited a local dealership to see a 2007 Carrera hardtop last night with my son. The dealership experience was worthy of another thread probably- and I'm thankful the car wasn't the right one after viewing reviews on napleton Acura palm beach - along with my experience.
back to the car- the drivers interior door switch didn't work causing window issues, passenger door window regulator was wonky- nab wasn't working, scratches in bumpers but also a really wonky shifter that was very notchy made me uncomfortable. Also, it was quiet- I'm guessing no sport exhaust? When I came back to tell them it wasn't the k e for me and why- they claimed they just had a clutch put in.....
