Well,
I like the crossfire. Or is it that I like two seater hard top cars? or that could be expanded to 2+2 cars.
I like the long low hood. I like the sloping rear window. I lke the shotened wheel base (relative to 4 door cars)
I even like the impacticality of the car, you can not carry anthing, and that is the point.
So, with used prices comming down, I find my interest turning to them. for $14K - $18K, are there better buys? (miata not withstanding)
What do you all think?
that's awful cheap for what you get.
I think they look kinda dated, but to each his own I guess.

I kinda like the look, almost from the 1930's when boat builders would also build bodys for cars. If you catch my meaning.
that's spot on. don't care for it though.

I like them for most of the reasons mentioned above. There's something about cars that are not practical that I love. I also like suzuki x90's.
I think the styling of those cars is spot on, I just wish the SRT6 came with the same flip up spoiler the base vehicles did, not that great big plastic tray which looks so out of place.
The x90! I like the Crossfire coupe, and the SRT version is an awesome bargain. The one thing I would need to address would be the hood. I would need to figure out some way to replace it with a smooth one. Otherwise, the proportions and layout are nice, and the price continues to depreciate. Seems like there are a lot of them out there with low miles, too.
I would like a Crossfire or TT coupe

$14-$18k? Screw that!
You could probably find an M Coupe (Z3) for that price. Almost certainly a 3.0 Z3 coupe. Maybe a bit higher mileage but a way more badass car that will likely have fewer problems, and be easier to work on. Plus it has a functional trunk and good visibility.
Heck, I'm planning to list my M Coupe for about $18k. It just needs a few pidly trim bits and a bit of detailing and touch-up.
I like them.
You should be able to get a low mileage one for 12k or less. 14-18 too much imo.
The SRT6 is mean, AMG hand built powerplant.
I helped a good friend pick one out, '04 w/40k miles white auto for 12k last year. Pretty fun car, quick not fast.
The SRT6 however is way way cooler.
Problems are well documented, pretty solid car. Cup holder is terrible. Oil changes are 8 quarts of M1. Heated seats can stop working. That's it really, not a bad price for a nice MB product.
If its a DD northern car, check the inside of the bottom of the doors, drains can clog and rust can start there.
In a pinch (or on purpose depending on your objectives), a passenger can sit on the other passengers lap. Or ride in the "trunk." It all depends on what your motives are for giving rides.
Nice looking, but were certainly overpriced at the time.
I think the base only had ~210 HP. And they were trying to sell it for something like ~$35k

Ah, the bastard love child of the short-lived D-C union. Seems to create "kinda cool" or "hate it" reactions. It's never been on my list of desirable cars, but if you can get one for a song, why not? Certainly will be considered unique eventually, if not already.
I like'em for all the reasons above. I think they would make a good old man cruising car. Since I getting there, maybe that's why I relate.
I loved the styling of the SRT-6 hardtop, but then I drove my Grandpa's base convertible, and the dashboard devoured my kneecaps...
I love the SRT's powerplant but there is nothing else about those cars that I like. I wouldn't have one. Stupidly overpriced to buy and then outrageously expensive to repair. It's good for the shop's bottom line though.
I know styling is subjective, I sorta like the nose but it's a bit big in the bustle. From behind it looks like a fat old woman pulling weeds in her flowerbed.
I haven't been able to really push one, but my initial reaction is typical engineered in understeer.
My Jensen is easier to get in and out of and has better visibility once inside.
Any time I see one, I can hear Clarkson. in his British accent in my head. "it looks like a dog doing its business!"
I do kinda like em though

Same here.
More Clarkson wit...
"The Chrysler Crossfire has to be the worst example of American-German cooperation since a chap called Adolphus Busch arrived in the States, tasted the water and thought 'MMMM, i could make BEER out of this! And we ended up with that headache in a can called Budweiser."
I'm pretty sure the crossfire is just a chrysler bodied slk. I heard the srt6 version was offered with a 5 speed while the slk32s got the choice of the 7speed paddle shifter transmission.
Daimler made a few really aweful acquisitions and now it seams like BMW is the one to beat for performance luxury and lexus for all out luxury. The only thing that must keep Mercedes in business is their large commercial vehicles, I hear they are the largest truck producer in the world.

It is a Chrysler bodied SLK built by Karmann in Germany.
The manual gearbox in the Crossfire produced this "dream build" in my head...
- 1st-gen Mercedes CLK320 coupe, black
- Supercharged AMG V6 from the SLK32
- Crossfire manual gearbox
- Pedals/shifter from the Euro CLK200 (underpowered 4-cylinder Euro CLK available with a stick)
- CLK55 AMG wheels, bumpers, side skirts
- No rear emblems besides the center "star"
- Konis, Eibachs, AMG sway bars
= quasi Mercedes "M3"
When these cars are all twenty years old and cheap, I will build this...

SRT6s got a manual in the states? Hmm...
Crossfire was indeed an SLK I like the styling of the coupe. The convertible I can do without. I also agree that the wing on the SRT6 needs to go for the spoiler of the base car. I wanted one until the Detroit auto show in 06, when I got to sit in one. Way to small, and I'm not that much bigger than average.

Two things:
Power: I think the SRT6 was underrated from the factory- the Mercedes version of the exact same engine made 19 more horsepower.
Handling: I'm also pretty sure the SRT6 pulled .9g on the skidpad stock. I don't know what that means for dynamic handling, but its a number.

No manual in the SRT6.
I drove it, and a manual convertible. Huge ewwww factor, just because it's a rolling blindspot.
But I love the hardtop and if I had the bucks, I'd buy one.
