I need a new trouble light with the retractable-reel thingy you hang on the garage ceiling. I tried the $30 Bayco budget model and wore it out in two years. Does anybody have a better option that isn't an arm and a leg? $15/year for another Bayco isn't all that bad . . . .

In modern times of low-power-draw LED trouble lights, why have a cord at all?

Because some of us really suck at remembering to keep them charged?
But in general... I agree.
I've always wanted to love the retractable cord lamps, but never have. I've found the old fashioned corded ones, with real long cords, to do me just fine. A highish hook or such to hang the few loops of cord when I'm done.
I should check the LED ones out. Then I could use a rope rather than a cord, so I can find the damn thing, unlike the 3 LED flashlights I keep in my toolbox.

Well, that's why you get a rechargable one - it essentially "lives" in its charging station when not in use.
I had a retractable reel CFL light, but it broke. It was nice to have hanging in the middle of the ex's garage. Always accesible, but out of the way. Currently, I use a 24" fluorescent tube with a cord. It's OK, but it often doesn't want to stay where I put it.
