I've a friend who had no idea what the words were until he heard this version: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dzvC2JP8V2E Anyway, this is why I sometimes will describe something good as being "phat like a sumo".

From Tuna's own thread..

Any ACE hardware store should have gasket making material (rubber based) in square 4"x4" or 6"x6" sheets in the plumbing department. I've used it for all sorts of things - spring seat insulators, grommets, etc.

I have a lot less room than would be useful. I am not sure how I will actually assemble it together. I am going to experiment with some floormat material today. Here are some pictures of the mocked up area:

I am now thinking that I can safely skip the membrane altogether. The worst that can happen is that the cavity with the fuel filler and vent will get filled with junk. I am not sure I care, and any solution is bound to be inelegant and not fit in the space I have.

Looks like a perfect place for a removable sheet metal tunnel that allows stuff to jus fall out the bottom-or that miata gasket a few pics up.

That's sort of the idea. There will sheet metal tunnel there emulating a stake pocket and that's pretty much what you are saying, I think.

Yah, just hiding the things under a cover would probably be the cleanest way to go.
