The ministock tire rule has been constant here for quite a while, and the Kumho KH16 is King. They quit building them a couple of years ago, and I can find no more... So if any of you guys have a Kumho store near you, please check if they have any old stock. 195/60 14 is ideal, 195/55 15is also useful, but I'd need new wheels for them.
If anybody finds some, let me know. Hell, if you have them on your car, I'll buy you a new set if I can have yours. Might not have to shave them!
No Kumhos out there? Me sad.
How old are these things if all you can find is aging, new old stock? Some of the new 200tw street tires are pretty darn sticky. You could look into those. I believe Bridgestone's re71r is modded with an older MotoGP compound and I believe it comes in 195/50-15. Also bfgoodrich has their rival in some 15" sizes. That one is basically one of their old slick compound.
Strange they would mandate that tire. It is one of the worst tires I have ever had the pleasure of driving on.

I went and checked, and though I have that size on my miata, they are unfortunately sumitomos.
Treadwear rules- nothing lower than 320, specifically to keep people off race tires. Ministock= low budget.
The Kumhos are not legislated, but they are the fastest tire that fits the category. The old Sumitomos were close, but they went away too long ago. I think its only a matter of time before we go to an American Racer treaded race tire. The 60 series small tires are just disappearing. We would have gone to race tires already, but lots of the Civic sized stuff runs on used Legends 205/60 13 Federals, and they are easily available already worn to race depth. Its too much compromise to make a 13 fit a Neon, plus, the Kumhos are quicker.
What about BFG sport comp 2's? They are a 320 tw tire available in 15" sizes that's decently sticky.

Yep. That is one of the possibilites. It involves buying wheels, and probably tweaking the setup to get it all right, and I'm only six points out of the lead, in third, after half a season. One bad race means no cheap plastic trophy covered in glory.
I think going 15" is inevitable, but I would like to run out the season on the setup I have.
