Is it indicative of a larger issue?
Looking at one that has some good stuff on it, but it needs work.
I'm half tempted to get it and get it running drive it maybe more of a dedicated auto-x car, as opposed to scavenging parts.
If you stick a 1.8 in it, what do they do for classing, though that doesn't matter too much...

Ls swap will cure all that ails her.
No LS swaps... simple is better in this case...
Leaking rear main on a 27 year old car isn’t unusual. Might as well do a clutch while you’re at it.
92 is ES or STS. 1.8 swapped 92 is CSP at a minimum.
Could be indicative of excessive blow by/crankcase pressure
Came here expecting OP to announce LS swap. I am disappoint.

I've replaced a remarkable number of rear main seals on Z engines (the narrow angle version of the DOHC B). I think Mazda made the seals out of the same stuff that BMW used for E36 interiors. They would go rock hard and just sort of crumble.
If anything it indicates that the engine hasn't been apart.

I had resigned myself to letting it go, but that has started me thinking... Not the best idea given my limited space, but it's kind of rat rod cool.
